This is, personally, my favorite Diana Ross song. Her vocals are as clear as day.
As I suspected, this is a Billie Holiday remake, as it is included on the Lady Sings The Blues soundtrack. I must hear her version, immediately.
Anyone know of any compilations including this track by Billie?

Excellent choice and yes, Diana's voice is as crisp and polished as Nancy Wilson's. I've been trying to get my hands on the CD re-release, which debuted at Number 1 on the charts and singlehandedly made Lady Day's older albums big sellers again. With a fabulous debute performance by its leading lady, Lady Sings the Blues was without a doubt the 'Ray' of its day.
Not sure of any Billy compilations, though.

One of Billie's finest recordings. A true standard, and she was the first to sing it.
Diana's is one of the better, if not the best, recording on the Lady Sings The Blues soundtrack. Her version went Top 20 on Billboard's Best Selling Soul Singles chart and Top 40 on the Hot 100.

It's a gorgeous song. I do like Billie Holiday's version, but Diana's is my personal favorite. Her voice is really clear, as the OP said, it sounds really pure. The whole soundtrack to the movie (as well as the 2006 album Blue) is a great listen.
