The long-time British rock band Status Quo had tons of UK singles chart, and over 20 of them made the top ten. This was one of their biggest hits. It peaked at #2 over there. The song's prospective of an "army" is a remake, and I can't pin point who recorded it first. However it still baffles me as to why this was not a hit in the States when it huge just about everywhere else in the world including Europe...BTW in the US they are in fact one hit wonders "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" stopped at #12 on the Hot 100.

Pictures of Matchstick Men is a brilliant song by a brilliant band. I can't imagine why this band never clicked in the States.

I love this song. I agree that they should have had more success in the US.

Their first hit on the Hot 100 was in 1968!
