What can I say? I have 1987 on my mind right now. This was a one hit wonder for Wa Wa Nee. It peaked at number 26 on the R&R chart. The lyrics went "My love and me, we're sugar free." I remember Rick Dees explaining that the song was implying that they were not into doing drugs. I bought the 45 for 99 cents. I liked the song, but can understand why it wasn't a huge hit.

It wasn't a huge hit because it sucked.
Well, that's my opinion on it. I just didn't like the name of the group - sounds sort of like baby talk, like Yaki-Da and Kajagoogoo and stuff.
I was surprised to hear it on U93's Flashback Lunch on Labor Day, 2001. I didn't think any radio station on the face of the earth had this song anymore.

That song that is actually a near-chart topper. I wonder if it did anything in the clubs back then?

I didn't like this song at first, it later grew on me. I bought their CD a few years later for a couple bucks (in the cut-out bin).

I don't even know this I'm sure of that. I do like Sugar Free by Juicy tho, it that's any consolation.

thanks for the link, not bad, nice brass, was it synth (probably)? I never heard this for whatever reason, prolly had gone into more of a freestyle/house music/urban vein by then.

You when I bought BB magazine regularly, I saw Wa Wa Nee getting some kind of R&B radio action with this song. In other words they came close to hitting the R&B charts in 1987. If they would have, they would have been the first Austrailians to ever hit the R&B charts, but instead INXS did it later with "I Need You Tonight". For the record this another song that I put into my "Lost Hits" compilation along with "World Where You Live" by Crowded House, which incidently makes two Austrailian acts!
