This was one of Jody's few ballads to chart. It had a pretty strong chart life.
I used to LOVE this song.

I heard somewhere that Jody Watley said she didn't do ballads. That was during her first album, though. The closest thing she had to a ballad on that album (that she released, anyway) was "Don't You Want Me". One could easily make a club mix of all her big hit songs (excluding "Most Of All" and "Still A Thrill", which as I recall are in a different key) and it would be pretty much the same song, since they sound so much alike. Even "Everything" could be included. All you'd have to do is speed up the tempo of this song and mix in drum beats.

This was a great song! Wasn't it her final hit single?

^^ She had other hits afterwards, but not nearly as big. If I recall correctly, her last top 40 hit was "I'm the One You Want" in 1992.

Actually, it was "I'm The One You Need", and it was a top ten hit. Sort of a disappointment when I first heard it, because it was the long version, with a piano prelude at the beginning, misleading many people into thinking it was a ballad.

I liked it. It got overplayed at the time, but it was still enjoyable.

Ha, I've been kinda obsessed with this lately. Might be my favorite by Jody. I love the melody.

I donβt remember this song at all, and I loved Jody in the late 80s and had started paying attention to the charts despite being young. Weird.

I loved this song and for awhile I thought Jody was going to be my number 2 after Donna Summer but she slowly faded a bit. I remember instantly loving it when the "Larger Than Life" album came out. I also Loved "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me" from the same album and was not that happy they picked the midtemo ballad "Precious Love" as a single.

I miss Jody Watley. Beautiful voice and such a unique individual. Really enjoy this - not in the same league as Looking for a New Love or Don't You Want Me - but this is a really solid song.

Very under-rated.
I think I still have the cassette single.
