I was listening to some old cassette tapes from 1985 and came across two songs by Go West. "We Close Our Eyes," and "Call Me." Two excellent songs in my book. However, they only hit number 41 and 54 on respectively on the Billboard Hot 100.
Go West did have some Top 40 success in 1987, 1990, 1992 and 1993 with hits like "Don't Look Down- The Sequel,"#33 peak "King Of Wishful Thinking,"#6 peak, "Faithful" can't recall the peak position of this 1992 hit, and "What You Won't Do For Love," #25 in 1993.
I like the two 1985 hits much better than any of their Top 40 hits. Whatever happend to Go West?

I liked Go West. I don't remember the 1985 songs, but I did like listening to all the other songs afterwards. I'm not sure where they are now.

The lead singer, Peter Cox, recently took part in a british TV show called 'reborn in the USA' in which 'washed up' stars toured small american venues together and were voted off week on week by the audience and the viewers. He came 3rd.
Other people in it included Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet (who won) 90's RnB/Pop singerMichelle Gayle (Came 2nd) Imagination vocalist Leee Jon, Blues singer Elkie Brooks, 80's/90's pop princess and Eurovision entrant Sonia and Gina G.

Okay who DOESN'T like "King of Wishful Thinking"!? that's the kind of song that'll come on and everyone in the room just starts singing along to.

I have to admit that I really don't care a whole lot for "King Of Wishful Thinking." It's not a bad song, but not one of my favorites. I think their 1985 hits that I mentioned-songs that never even hit the Top 40 - are much better. These songs have excellent beats, music and catchy melodies.

Yeah, I agree with Ariens; I think their earlier work is better, especiall "We Close Our Eyes" and their attempt at pop-r&b "Eye To Eye" which got moderate airplay for a few months on WBLS, the urban station here in NY. WCOE, especially has such a great memorable synth brass laden hook that it's amazing it only reached 41 on the pop charts. The followup album really sucked, except for the remake of "Don't Look Down" and a song that Kate Bush appears on was really good too. But it seemed like they were a band that was just gonna have a little cult following based on that first album, until they came out with "King..." which was in "Pretty Lady" I think.
If you guys are adventurous, check out "Eye To Eye" and "We Close...", you won't be disappointed.

However, when I first bought it, I mean I played that CD over and over while was on a road trip by myself. Yes I do agree that their earlier songs were much better. When "Eye to Eye" was on Urban radio in 1985, I only heard it when it was played on Soul Train because I had written it down not knowing who the heck the were until I moved to England the next year. Ironcilly I did not even remember the song or the melody what so ever.

I agree on what stevie nice is saying of this group. I first seen the video to We Close Our Eyes on MTV at the time with the animated figures behind them. Not exactly the best video they made, but it's viewable. I also like Don't Look Down both from their '85 and '87 albums. I don't see why the 1980s CHR radio gave it a short leash and let it go. I'm sure that it has done very well overseas.

I loved "We Close Our Eyes"... at the time it came out, I was living in Cape Coral, and late at night I could pick up an FM pop station from the Tampa Bay area on my headphones (pretty sure it wasn't Q105, they must've had a short-lived competitor in the mid-80s). They played the heck out of that song, as well as another great one that just missed the top 40, "The Word Is Out" by Jermaine Stewart.

I really liked "Faithful" and I liked their cover of "What You Won't Do for Love" well enough, but I never was into "King of Wishful Thinking" much.

I just discovered that they did "Faithful," a song I've heard here and there for a while and never knew who sang it. I'm gonna check out more of their songs.
