I love this song! My favourite OMD record believe it or not. Back in 1986 I was appalled to see this song peak at #19 when I was listening to AT40. Twenty years later I really listen and I interpret this as a song about a close one passing away.

Definitely one of their more dreamy sounding songs.

I liked this song. I was also disappointed to see it peak so low, especially since what was IMO their worst song, "If You Leave" got all the way up to #3 (and remains their only Top Ten hit to date). I also liked "Dreamin'" and "So In Love". I believe "Dreamin'" hit the Top 20, but "So In Love" ran out of gas at #24.
U93 gave "Forever (Live And Die)" moderate airplay in late 1986, so at least it wasn't one of those songs that I only heard on the countdowns.

I had this song in my head a couple of weeks ago for no reason at all. I hadn't heard it probably since it went recurrent. I agree that this is OMD's best song and I would love to hear this one now.

Took me forever to get the lyrics in the chorus right... I used to think they were just singing "Why oh why oh why oh why oh whyyyyyy... you make me wanna cry..."
Shame it doesn't get much '80s airplay today.

This is definitely a lost classic... this and "So In Love" were my two favorites of theirs. "If You Leave" got burnt to a crisp for me.

Yeah, I'd like to hear this song again. I liked "So In Love" and "Dreaming" which were also under rated.

Love this. This was one of their three biggest hits in America. They had so many great songs.
I could never hear If You Leave again and I would be happy. #sodamnoverplayed
