This was his first single, released in 1989 from the album Adventures in Paradise. I remember hating this song when it was out because it sounded too much like "My Prerogative", which had been released almost a year earlier. Everything, from the music to the lyrics right down to the synth solo, screamed "My Prerogative". I can remember thinking at the time, now what is this fine brotha doing singing this Bobby Brown ripoff?
I don't hate it as much now, but I'm still not too fond of it. On the flip side, I love the album's second single, "Promises, Promises".

I remember a lot of people saying that it sounded a lot like "My Prerogative". It had some slight similarities, but not as much as people say it did, but I liked it.

I have the cassette single. The lyrics were off the chain. I used to bring the single to school with my walk-man. This jam was hot, man! The B side was jammin as well a great slow jam called "Memories" both songs of course from the same album.

This also hit #4 on the R&B chart. Here's the music video (check out Stacey Dash!):
I still think this sounds very similar to "My Prerogative".

This was alright. It was definitely heavily influenced by "My Prerogative". I prefer the second single, "Promises, Promises". My favorites by him are "I'm Dreamin'" and "Every Little Thing U Do" though.

I also much prefer "Promises, Promises" over this, even though the lyrics to "Talk To Myself" does make me laugh real hard. "I"m Dreamin" and "Every Little Thing U Do" are my favorites from him as well.
