Anyone who was around during the 1970s should remember this hit. A Chicago DJ interrupted this song in the closing seconds of 1977 to welcome in 1978 and say that 1977 was a turkey of a year - whatever that means. Anyway, I like this song a lot. No, seriously!

I hate it. I couldn't believe Whitney covered it in 2002.

UU-BRU Radio Playlist [red]For Week Ending January 7, 1978[/red] (Rank This Week, Artist, Title) There is no "Rank Last Week" because this was the first chart. 01 Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love 02 Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life 03 Queen - We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions 04 Player - Baby Come Back 05 Linda Ronstadt - Blue Bayou 06 Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are 07 Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch 08 Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again 09 Crystal Gayle - Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue 10 Bob Welch - Sentimental Lady This was my first "official" Top 40 chart, although YLML was #1 on some of the Top 10 surveys I did in late 1977. On the UU-BRU Radio Playlist Gold Archives, YLML was the #9 single of 1977. www.keystonehighways.com/uubru1977.html:)

Don't like it. LeAnn Rimes version is actually OK... Whitney's was DREADFUL (and I am a Whitney fan!).

I actually like it a little bit... the fact that I've only had to hear it a couple of times in the last 25 years certainly helps. :)

Even though I was alive when this song was charting (I was five and a half, almost six), I was never subjected to it five times a day, since my Mom hated it so much, she changed the station everytime it played. But I did know about the song (my Dad listened to basically anything, so when he was driving and I was in the car with him, I might have heard it).

It was #1 for 10 weeks in a row and ended up being the biggest hit of the 70's even though Debby Boone never had another top 40 hit in her career

It was OK. We had to sing it in grade school, along with other "hip" songs like "The Greatest Love Of All" and "You Needed Me."

Did You Light Up My Life ever make it to the R&B chart?

I can't understand why this was such a massive hit.

Anyone who was around during the 1970s should remember this hit. I was around during the 1970's, '60's, 50's and 40's, and I do remember this hit. I don't like it though. I do like music from her father, Pat Boone, who was a big recording artist of the 1950's and early '60's.

I can't understand why this was such a massive hit. I feel the same way about "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke.

I like this song, and some of Pat Boone's songs, too. I know even back in the day it was not considered hip to like it.

I've NEVER burned out on this. In fact, I've only liked it more during the last 20 years. I dare anyone to crank this tune at full blast at every red light.

Did You Light Up My Life ever make it to the R&B chart? it reached #1 at ac and #4 at country but no r&b. anyway i like the song and alot of big ballads from previous decades. the meltdowns on Pulse if big ballads like this still hit #1.
