I guess I've been on a sad song kick lately. This is another classic of that genre; in fact, imo, it's one of the all-time greatest sad songs. Willie's voice never once begins to crack, yet it sounds like both he and the guitar are bawling like mad.
I've never been one of Willie's greatest fans, but there are a few masterpieces in his career - songs that are perfect and could never have been performed in quite that way by anyone else. BECITR is one of those songs.

This was Willie's first time in the pop Top 40 as a performer, although he'd already charted several times as a songwriter (Patsy Cline's "Crazy" most notably).

Blue Eyes Crying In THe Rain reached #21 in 1975 and started the Outlaw movement in country music in full stride
