You may be surprised to learn that this is one of my favorite Air songs/singles - a truly interesting highlight from the much-maligned 10,000 Hz Legend album. It is nothing short of gorgeous and transcendent. Favorite parts: the intro, the strings, the "l-l-lights!", the electric bass-disguised-as-guitar solo leading to Beck's incomparable spoken word partin the bridge, the whistling & stuttering vocal in the end - the continual crescendo & fall of the structure. It gets me every time. This song has the power to heal. It got me through some tough times. Don't Be Light [Version (a)]: Don't be light, don't be light Don't be light, maybe like me Don't be light, don't be light Don't be light, maybe like me Don't be light
Don't don't be light Don't maybe like me Don't light don't be light Don't light maybe like me Don't light Don't be light, don't be light oh Wild life, the grey surprises of our days Singing in caves, fabricating a new abandon We don't see the master's hand We bang on gold tambourines In the crosshairs of some transient gun Trading desires on the banquet line La la la la la la... la la la la la la La la la la la la... la la la la la la Don't don't be light Don't, maybe like me Don't be light, don't be light Don't be light, maybe like me Don't be light

For me, "Don't Be Light" is exactly the epitome of much of what's wrong with 10 000 Hz Legend: it's too sprawling, too muddled, too excessive, too everything, really. Good thing that The Neptunes came and saved the day with that funky-as-fuck and less-is-definitely-more remix!

And for me, everything that you just complained about is it's asset. I guess we'll just have to disagree on this one.
