I love both renditions of this classic. It's just something about Donny Hathaway that is awe inspiring. Luther is just as great and Beyonce's vocals are smooth as butter. What can be said about the LEGENDARY Ms. Flack, one of the few artist to win Record of The Year Back to Back.
P.S. I see that there are two Beyonce cover's on the chart. "Emotion" by Samantha Song and "TCIGTY". How did Destiny's Child "Emotion" measure up to Samantha Song's on your chart?

Your descriptions on all 4 acts were right on the money! As for "Emotion"... UU-BRU Internet Radio For Week Ending April 1, 1978 (Rank This Week, Last Week, Artist, Title) 01 01 Paul Davis - I Go Crazy 02 04 Samnatha Sang - Emotion03 12 Billy Joel - Moving Out 04 06 David Gates - Goodbye Girl 05 05 Raydio - Jack & Jill 06 03 Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon, James Taylor - Wonderful World 07 08 Barry Manilow - Can't Smile Without You 08 07 Bee Gees - Night Fever 09 11 Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You 10 15 Wings - With A Little Luck Samantha Sang spent 2 weeks at #2, ranking at #11 for 1978. www.keystonehighways.com/uubru1978.htmlUU-BRU Internet Radio For Week Ending December 29, 2001 (Rank This Week, Last Week, Artist, Title) 01 01 Alan Jackson - Where Were You 02 02 Pink - Get The Party Started 03 04 Destiny's Child - Emotion04 03 Creed - My Sacrifice 05 11 Ja Rule - Living It Up 06 05 Mary J. Blige - Family Affair 07 07 Trace Adkins - I'm Trying 08 08 Sugar Ray - Answer The Phone 09 09 Mick Jagger - God Gave Me Everything 10 20 No Doubt - Hey Baby Destiny's Child reached #3 in their 28th chart week, easily the slowest climb to a peak position on my chart. Most of those weeks were spent in the 30's, so "Emotion" only mananged to rank at #13 for the year, www.keystonehighways.com/uubru2001.htmlI really enjoy both versions. DC's cover was true to the original while giving their own "stamp" on it. :)

I love "The Closer I Get To You". These two really had something special in their duets.. easily in my Top 10 duet partners of all time, and there's a lot of them in urban music. It's interesting how Luther and Beyonce reversed the male/female lines for their version. Their remake is fantastic and currently sits at #15 on my personal charts.
Another duet I love by them is the upbeat "Back Together Again". That one came out in 1980. It's got that distinct early 80's R&B sound.

This tune got to #2 on the Pop charts in 1978 and should have been a #1 in my opinion

This tune got to #2 on the Pop charts in 1978 and should have been a #1 in my opinion The reason it didn't go to #1 is because it wasn't from the film "Saturday Night Fever". That's about all that hit #1 during the first half of 1978.

I think the duet was prevented from hitting #1 also by the Wings tune "With A LIttle Luck" if I remember correctly
