This song rocks, but it wound up being more of an adult contemporary hit in the end (#1 for 8 weeks on AC versus #17 on Mainstream Rock) -- strange because JCM had never been a huge AC artist. The Mellencamp/NdegeOcello pairing sounds like such a weird collaboration, because Me'Shell is better known for her earthy R&B, but when you hear her nail the guitar, there are no more questions. This was a cover of a great Van Morrison tune from the early 1970s. I actually like this 1994 version much more than the original (I know, it's blasphemy). Apart from this standout song, I think Melencamp's best material was all in the early 1980s. This is easily Me'Shell's biggest hit: #3 on the Hot 100.

Excellent song! I too prefer the remake over Van's original.

Great remake! #1 on Rick Dees Top 40! John Mellencamp put out some huge classic hits, man in the 1980s in particular.

Tough call between the two versions, but that I can say that (as a big Van Morrison fan) means than John and Me'Shell really did their thing.
