From the motion picture of the same name and starring Bruce Willis, Lauren Christy's haunting ballad made me have goosebumps the first time I heard it. It captivates you from the first note to the last. Her passion and desire, frustrationa nd anger all come through on my favorite pop song of all time. I am still shocked, to this day, this did not become a hit on Pop or AC.
Lyrics: You and I moving in the dark Bodies close but souls apart Shattered smiles, secrets are revealed I need to know the way you feel
[Chorus:] I'll give you everything I am And everything I want to be I'll put it in your hands If you could open up to me oh Can't we ever get beyond this wall
'Cause all I want is just once To see you in the light But you hide behind The color of the night
I can't go on running from the past Love has torn away this mask And now like clouds (like clouds) Like rain (like rain) I'm drowning and I blame it all on you And I'm lost God save me...
[Chorus]
'Cause all I want is just once To see you in the light But you hide behind The color of the night
[Chorus]
'Cause all I want is just once Forever and again I'm waiting for you, I'm standing in the light But you hide behind The color of the night
Please come out from The color of the night

This was number one on my personal chart in the fall of 1994. It was by far the best of her three charted songs. "Steep" was pretty good though. Her first song, "You Read Me Wrong", from the summer of 1993, was also not bad, but it seemed to be more whiny than the other songs. But I liked all three of them.

I remember Shadoe Stevens playing a Lauren Christy song as a "Sneek Peek" on AT40 in '94. This may have been the song.

Well, according to Rob Durkee's book about American Top 40, "Steep" was featured as a Sneek Peek, but that was in 1993. Perhaps both songs were featured.
