A forgotten classic from 1985. I think it reached #37 on AT40. stevienice has the LP.

Oh yeah Randall, this is a great album all the way through. I'm not even sure this is available on CD. I'm glad you brought this song up.

I think this song had limited airplay as a result of their overall chart performance. I heard it only on AT40 during the winter of 1986. I didn't really care for the song, however I do remember it struggling to climb it's way up for so long as I watched it climb the charts.

I remember bringing this up at the old R&R boards once. I love it. It got lots of airplay on our local rock station. I didn't realize that a CD was unavailable. I have the album on vinyl. I remember trying to download this without luck a few years back, so I hooked one of my turntables up to the computer and recorded my own mp3.
This is a depressing tune from a pretty depressing album, but somehow the melody makes the downbeat lyrics seductive.
Unfortunately, David and David never recorded another album.

Thanks for the mp3, maybe I'll just burn the album onto a CD, it's pretty much free of pops and scratches in the surface of the vinyl.

My first time posting - I bought the CD on Amazon a few years ago (2001) and it had all the great David & David songs - Boomtown, Swallowed by the Cracks and the excellent 'It Ain't Easy'.
I remember hearing the tracks on the radio in Ireland when I was a teenager and I got the local record store to order the vinyl 45's for me as they were released in Europe.

Yeah, the "limited airplay" theory that JoshJoel mentioned sounds feasible, since it didn't chart at R&R. Not sure how far it got in New & Active, though, if it ever even made it there.
I didn't really care for this song at all and wasn't disappointed that it petered out at #37. The tune and the subject matter didn't really appeal to me.

I also have the vinyl album. The entire Boomtown album is very good. This is one of the better tracks, a deserved hit.

I remember when it charted, but I don't remember much about this song at all except for something about "cocaine on her dresser". Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't D&D the first duo to chart using the same first name? I remember Casey Kasem saying something to that effect.

I picked up the CD last summer at Sam the Record Man in Toronto. One of the few albums I can listen to in entirety but this is my favorite track.
