This is one of my favorite tracks from the legendary singer.
This song is one of the Israeli singer's most famous recordings. It was definitely not her first, nor her last. "Im Nin'Alu" was released from her 1988 album Shaday.
This peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart in 1988.
This track has been remixed, remade and sampled many times since its initial release. In Madonna's current album Confessions On A Dance Floor, specifically on the song "Isaac", the male vocals sung in the background and at the beginning of the song are in fact a re-creation of "Im Nin'Alu." Israeli DJ/remixer Offer Nissim even used some of Ofra's original vocals for a special remix he did of "Isaac." And Israeli singer (and former Eurovision winner) Dana International has recently covered "Im Nin'Alu" also.
In addition to her own recordings, she did many collaborations including Iggy Pop, Paula Abdul, Sarah Brightman and more.

It's so sad that the singer passed at such an early of, I believe, 41 years old. I remember this song quite fondly. When I was over in the UK, I used to hear this quite a bit. I wanted this to perform well in the US just as well. I'm satified that it at least made an impact on Alternative radio and the dance clubs as well.

It definitely has its unique place in the modern rock and dance worlds.

Amr Diab's "Habibi Ya Nour El Ein" is a far surperior middle Eastern song than "Im Nin'Alu"

I think it's most famous sample/remix was a sped-up version on MARRS' "Pump up the volume". It sounds so weird on that record (with like chanting voices in the background) but a cool mix. I remember in the UK, the song itself hit the top 20 because of its use in Pump up the volume. (At normal speed!)

That's another great song. I have loved that one ever since I heard it many years ago. It has been remade so many times. Disco Cowboy, are you arab? No. I get that a lot though. I'm originally from India. A lot of music from the Middle East filters in and is fairly popular on some of the Indian music video channels. I found out about "Habibi" by Amr Diab after the video got a lot of play on Channel [V] when I was in India in '97. I got some mix compilation that had it on it and I have loved it ever since. And in regards to the music from Israel, I got into that kind of music after I got introduced to Israeli DJ Offer Nissim. He remixed and remade many other Israeli classics and I got into the originals. I had always been into Ofra Haza's stuff. I got into that after the Paula Abdul track came out. In terms of current Israeli artists, I'm into Fairuz, Ivri Lider, Rita and Dana International.

Amr Diab's "Habibi Ya Nour El Ein" is a far surperior middle Eastern song than "Im Nin'Alu" Oh crap! My family had a huge obsession with that track. Of course I loved it too. Ofra Haza's "Im Nin' Alu" is/was a total jam. Hot beat & hot vocals. I think I might want to buy "Shadday", her international breakthrough, after reading this topic. Thanks for the influence & indirect reccomendation lol.

I love this song, esp. the 12 inch extended mix of it. The production is something else and Ofra's vocals just seal the whole deal.
