Anyone a fan of Bob Marley? I'm in the middle of reading a long article about him in Rolling Stone. Very interesting fellow. I'm going to check out some of his music at the library. The article highlights his unique contribution to music and how his music rose out of his country's pervasive poverty. One thing I found interesting was how ska music was all the rage in Jamaica. I had heard of ska because No Doubt was into that type of music. But the article mentioned that ska morphed into a style of music called "rock steady". No Doubt has an album by that name and I had never made the connection before. Very interesting.
I knew that Bob Marley died young, but I had always assumed it was from drugs. This article says he died from melanoma. I would highly recommend this article to anyone wanting to learn about Bob Marley.
Can you recommend any CDs that feature Bob Marley's music? Have a favorite song? Comments on his legacy?

I'm not really a fan, although I do like what little I've heard of his music. Obviously, Legend is a good starter CD if you want an overview.

Oh lord you just discovered B. Marleys Music? I personally grew up on Bob's music and he is the greatist musician to ever live. All his songs are talk about love, poverty, unity, freedom, etc. He is a worldwide icon and his followers are huge accross the globe. For begginers I'll recommend "Legend"(the weakest marley compilation but the most successfull moving 10mill + only in the US) a compilation of most well known songs in the US. If you want the best Marley songs forget about" legend" and get his other compilation.
Fav Marley quote " Emancipate urself from mental slavery, non but ourselves can free our mind"

I really liked the songs "Sun Is Shining", "Jammin' ", "Could You Be Loved" and "Rainbow Country." I got introduced to all those through Funkstar DeLuxe's remixes from 2000.

I do like Bob Marley. I thought it was cute that Will Smith had the CD "Legend" (without naming it) in the movie "I Am Legend."
