Simply a magnificent piece of pop craftmanship that was inexplicably denied an entry on the Hot100 upon release as a single in spring 1980!?!!, yet fortunately became a top 5 smash in the UK.
From the awesome followup to the even more awesome debut album "Look Sharp," this track from "I'm The Man" received significant rock airplay here on WNEW in NY and on the then very early alternative stations, WLIR and WPIX, and I'm guessing this is probably still played often on classic rock outfits.
"Well who said anything about love No not love she said Don't you know that it's different for girls Don't give me love No not love she said Don't you know that it's different for girls You're all the same..."
Shoulda been a top 20 in 1980, with many of rocks core AOR and up and coming acts like Pink Floyd, Queen, The Clash, Nick Lowe and Blondie started moving into the mainstream mode, from 1979 on, as a rebellion of sorts to an oversaturation of disco, Jackson seemed primed to take over the pop charts with this beauty, even considering he had the semi-angry, top 20 hit the previous summer with "Is She Really Going Out With Him."
I have this on CD and vinyl, and as a special 5 pack 45 vinyl with each of the 10 tracks given its own side!
Anyone else familiar with this gem?

This song should have been considered as one of 1980's defining radio moments; a surefire post punk/power pop ballad smash which took a females perspective on relationships thru the eyes of a man. Instead, this amazing four minutes of vinyl ecstasy flopped on the pop charts, I think it hit like #105 on the bubbling under chart. Truly trajjjjic!! It was, however, a top 5 hit in England, I do believe.
Anyone out here remember this great Joe Jackson track, or frankly wanna talk about any of his super first 3 albums, Look Sharp!, I'm The Man or Beat Crazy?
