This was quite a popular song when I was growing up. It was a rather novelty song and those of you who are less than 20 years old probably don't know the song. Here's a link to the lyrics. If Randall (reception) has a clip, I'm sure he'll provide to let you hear it.

That song was a classic mess all over. I remember when KTUX in Shreveport in their CHR or churban years would literally play the hell out of that song. Two weeks ago on my show at 'BAD I played it and the next thing you know, a caller didn't know that I was going that far back in my music. But he loved it. The "bucketheads" (I refer to the under 20 crowd) don't know of this, but it was sure a pure novelty done in hip-hop in '83.

I have this on a 12 inch single, I still have to figure out how to make mp3s from vinyl. A friend of mine copped this off itunes, but i can't deal with a 128 bitrate.

Thanks for the link CC. This is funny stuff. I think the fact that the impersonation is so bad adds to the novelty factor.

Where the hell have YOU been 20 years ago? I don't think I've ever heard Rappin' Duke on the radio.

I have heard it on the radio here before. It's very silly.

This song's a guilty pleasure for me. Outdated perhaps ("Kurtis Blow, Run-DMC, You Haven't Heard of Rap Till You Heard of Me. I'm The Baddest Rapper In History and They'll Be No More After Me") but I do enjoy this tune. Notorious BIG references this song in his 1994 hit "Juicy."
