Tommy Shaw "Ever Since The World Began"

I'll bet not many people remember this likeable hit from early 1988. It was a nice slow love song and deserved to go Top 10. (It was kind of like "Love Of A Lifetime" by Firehouse.) It could've been used at weddings, and proms, etc. Couldn't understand why it only reached number 75. It hung around 9 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. I was lucky enough to find it on '45 about 8 years back.

I'm one of the minority who remembers this song, since Chicago's Z95 played it.  It didn't get too high on their chart, if my memory serves me correctly - peaked somewhere in the 20s.  It was an awesome song and I agree that it should have been a Top Ten hit.  It was actually a remake of a song from Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger" LP.  I have the 45 of the Tommy Shaw version of the song, since MusicLand (or whatever the music store in LaPorte's mall was called) had the Billboard Hot 100 posted and all the 45s of every song on it in the racks under where the chart was taped up. 
So, Pete, are you now posting about obscure songs from 1988?

Yeah, Ulij20, I should start a topic on 1988 tunes. Thanks for the tidbit on the "Eye Of The Tiger" LP tune. I never knew that, and it makes posting these topics worth while. I'm glad at least someone remembers this song. I tell you, I almost did cartwheels when I came across this '45 at a going out of business sale at a used record shop. Our local Green Bay station WIXX, played the song. Don't think it did real well, but it was on their playlist a while.

I can't believe Tommy Shaw claimed that "Babe" was too sappy for him and then put this out.

This is the first time I've heard this song. I like Tommy's work with Styx and Damn Yankees, but am not too impressed with this.

I didnt know this song at all. I agree with Jimmy tho about his comments on Tommy Shaw. And upon hearing it I can't say it does anything for me.

I really have to give Styx credit for album like Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, Cornerstone, and to a lesser extent, Paradise Theater. They were commercial geared prog pop/rock for those of us between the ages of 13-18 (around the age when those allbums were released) who probably couldn't handle the good stuff like early Genesis, King Crimson, and ELP, but could take it in small doses which Styx offered.

As commercial and catchy as much of Styx stuff was, each song usually threw in a great little prog rock riff that showed they were trying to expand their horizons.

They killed themselves with the putrid Kilroy Was Here.

I'll be honest, tho it probably doesn't mean much to many people on these boards; but if Styx faded away after the song "Lady," I think they would have been remembered as one of the greatest one hit wonders ever.

Outstanding Song!!!

How? I put it at #2 for 5 weeks on my personal chart back in late 1987 - early 1988. If it wasn't for Mellencamp's "Cherry Bomb" it would have been a #1 song.

I bought the CD because of this song. There really wasn't anything else on "Ambition" that caught me like this one.

By the way, Dennis DeYoung is in Minneapolis tomorrow with orchestra. I'm debating whether to go or not. I don't like going to concerts solo.

By the way #2, if you like this song check out his "What If" album. There are three outstanding songs on that one. One "Count On You", my wife & me picked as our wedding song.

Tommy Shaw, Dennis, Damn Yankees, Styx that's the rock music I love.
