From Aretha's 1982 album of the same name, this first single was her first R&B #1 for Arista. It was written and produced by Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller. This is easily my favorite 80's song of her's. It's always been hard for me to rank all of Aretha's songs though because she's been around so long that her music has evolved into many different styles.

Good song from the Queen, but not my favorite or her best. It's great to look back at her career and see that she has been able to tranforms and adjust with the changes in music, but somehow remain to be a stone to the bone singer.

Released in the summer of 1982 from her album of the same name. This was the beginning of her comeback on the pop charts (it was her first Top 40 hit in 6 years) which culminated with the release of the Who's Zoomin' Who album 3 years later.
#1 R&B #24 Pop
Giving each other the 411 on who dropkicked who this week. LMAO!!

This is the song that saved her career from fading out in the early-1980s. By 1980 it became harder for her to make the top 10 on the R&B charts. Then came a duet in 1981 with George Benson, "Love All The Hurt Away".
But it was this hit that re-energized her already-iconic legacy, thanks to none other than Luther Vandross.

Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller really revived her career. Aside from Sparkle, her albums were pretty weak from the mid-70s to early 80s. The pair of albums she did with Luther and Marcus gave her a couple more #1 R&B hits, and the accompanying albums were really good too. I loved Luther and Marcus as a songwriting/production duo, and Luther would go on to have many hits of his own working with Marcus. Luther and Cissy Houston sang backing vocals on this track. "Jump To It" became Aretha's first #1 R&B hit in 5 years and her biggest Hot 100 hit in 8 years. It was also her first hit on Billboard's club chart.

My favorite 1980s Aretha song even if it wasn't her biggest hit that decade. Occasionally heard it on old school dance mixes back in the day.
