Most people know Sylvia for the R&B classic "Pillow Talk," but almost ten years later in 1981 she released this rap single which was basically a proclamation that she was the main female at Sugar Hill. It would certainly be odd today for a 45 year old woman to record a rap hit, but Sylvia managed to do it.
It didn't really do major things for her, but it still basically remains her unofficial theme song.
The instrumental track is amazing and I'm blown away that over 20 years later, no one has sampled it.

Yes, but the back of the compilation album I have this one listed it as Sylvie, and so I got confused and just chose "Sylvie". LOL

I like this. My jaw dropped when I found that it's based on Mel Brooks' "It's Good To Be The King", LOL. Alliance Ethnik interpolated the "Oh yes it's good to be a king/queen" lines on their 1995 European hit "Respect", which featured Vinia Mojica. And yeah, R.I.P. Sylvia. :(
