Kool & The Gang released this blissful instrumental in 1975 and epitomized the sound of summer within a single track. I love this song. I can just turn it on in the background and it changes my whole mood.

One of my favorites!

Classic jam.
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince sampled this in 1991 for their hit "Summertime".

I prefer the "live" version from 1976. The original from 1974 was too short.

Summer Madness was the B side to "Spirit of the Boogie".

Love this. I honestly didn't discover this until the movie, You Got Served. They had some great productions.

Ronald Bell (aka Khalis Bayyan) who plays the synth parts on this (probably the most iconic parts of the whole song) passed away today at 68.

One of Kool and the Gang's best songs and onf of the best 70s jazz-funk songs ever. My earliest memory of this song was through being sampled in several rap/urban songs like the aforementioned Fresh Prince's "Summertime" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggy Dogg World". I would occasionally hear the original song on V103 and defunct smooth jazz station WNUA in my market when I was younger.

I can’t believe this is Kool and the Gang, the surprises of this collective never end. Sounds like a late-night jazz bar. My dog just flipped out at that insane last high note.
