I wanted to share with all of you that I'm doing a big countdown of 80s songs. Right now, the countdown is still in development. I'm currently at 859 singles and I'm going explore more and more singles to fill out the countdown at 1000. Once I got the singles picked out, I will rank them.
I'm excited about doing such a big countdown. I also plan to do a web site and possibly an internet radio show counting down the songs. My goal is to have every thing ready to go by June 2004.
If you have any suggestions on which songs I should explore to fill out the countdown, please go ahead and suggest them. Please keep in mind that I have most of the popular songs already on the countdown so suggest minor hits and international (ie: UK, Australia, etc.) hits. Thanks!

I'd like to see this chart. I'm a big 80s fan and still love all the music from that decade.
Do you have any songs from Yaz on the chart? You don't to tell me their chart positions or how many songs you have.

Did you include Phoebe Cates' "Paradise," which was made a hit (again) in 2001 thanks to Kaci?

Did you include Phoebe Cates' "Paradise," which was made a hit (again) in 2001 thanks to Kaci? To be honest with you, I have never of heard of this song nor have I heard about this artist before. Since you took the time to suggest this song, I would put this song into consideration into making the countdown after I listen to the song. Thanks for your suggestion!

Thanks, Gorminako.
You gave me quite a list of songs to check out. I have probably around 35% of the songs you suggested to me on the countdown already but you gave me a lot of songs that I haven't heard before. I will definetly take the time to listen to all the songs that you suggested to me. You are definetly an 80s music fan! I agree with you that most 80s station only seem to play the "biggest" hits of the 80s. If you want to hear a minor hit from an artist, it's almost like you have to buy the album, download the song or try to find a station that plays it. Once again, thanks for your suggestions!

You're very welcome. I'm surprised that hardly anybody else gave you suggestions. From the comments I've heard, there are quite a few other '80's fans on this board. My list, as long as it was, was by no means an exhaustive one.

Heck, if I tried to give some suggestions, it'd be about 20 pages long. I've been working (on-and-off) on a year-by-year ranking of the '80s, and so far I've only (almost) finished 1980 and 1981. There's just way too many good songs.

I have a modest collection of 80's hits, but one I cannot find anywhere on any compilation and the original is out of print... "Lights Out" by Peter Wolf. He's best known as J. Geil's Band's lead singer. This was his first solo hit from the album of the same title.
I hope this is part of that collection.

I've never seen it on a CD compilation either. :( Fortunately I have the original 45 (still sounds good for being 20 years old).

Talking Heads- Letting The Days Go By (title?)
This is called "Once In A Lifetime" and is from their fine 1980 album "Remain In Light." Also contains another club hit called "Crosseyed And Painless."

Thanks. The Talking Heads are one of those bands that I always liked, but just never quite well enough to get their album, therefore, I couldn't remember the name of the song. For some reason, they were a band I really used to love, until they became big then I started to lose touch with them. It happened around the time of the 'Stay Up Late" single which started getting smeared all over top40 radio in New York. Even tho "Burning..." became a big hit, they were still my special band until "Stay..." It's funny because I am in the middle of importing one of their compilation albums as we speak, but if you can find a couple of their early albums at a budget price or something, go for it!
