This is my favourite Robert Palmer song, I've always liked it even when it missed the top 30 in 1986. I usually prefer radio edits but I really don't mind the LP version either, that's how brilliant the song is!
#32 CHR/Pop #33 AT40 or BB Hot 100

Yeah I like this too, I think I prefer the 5 minute version, am not sure I have even heard the radio edit. He was kinda always a hit or miss with me, but had some excellent early new wave tracks called "Johnny And Mary" and "Looking For Clues" that bear looking out for if you aren't already familiar with them. I wasn't really a fan of the Cherrelle remake, but for some reason liked his version of "You Are In My System" almost as much as the Systems version. well not almost, but i did like it a lot.

I have to admit the remake of the System's song was crap. The radio edit was hard to find, but I found it June 4th of last year. On the edited version they edit out the instrumental towards the final chorus of the song.

I have a 45 vinyl on Island that has I think, a 2:50 and on other side a slightly longer version, but I also have a 12 inch version of it that I'm guessing is almost 6 minutes. I'm going to old apt. today to look thru my vinyl because I want to start making mp3s of them, so if you wanna wait a while I can send you the mp3 of 12 inch mix. it sounds much better than the edited ones.

I think I heard the five minute version on Backtrax USA back in 1996 (or so) and it was longer than I remembered it being when it was a mid-charter ten years before. I prefer the shorter version because the LP version had too many instrumental refrains. I missed the song in its final week on "John Leader's Countdown USA" because I had forgotten to set the alarm and woke up at 8:30 (which was unusual for me back then - I almost always woke up at 7:00 no matter what. I must have been up late on Saturday night). Anyway, when I tuned in, "Tuff Enuff" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds was on and the next week, when I pieced together the countdown using the LW positions, only #36 was accounted for and I assumed it was either "Hyperactive" or "Crush On You" by the Jets, number 24 the previous week. I figured it was "Hyperactive", since it was unusual back then for a song to fall the week after it peaked, but it did happen. BTW, that #36 song was "Hyperactive". And that's my little story to go along with it.

I like this, but my favorite single from Riptide is I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On. Solid album.
