Hey, I'm interested in learning more about the band Oasis. I read their name from time to time in articles, mostly when a current band is being compared to them. What album of theirs would your recommend I pick up? Also, what current artists do you think have been influenced by them? Thanks!

One of the best bands of the 90's. "Whats the Story Morning Glory" is a must have album. Their biggest album in the US and abroad. Every song on the album is strong, with "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Morning Glory" are my personal favorites.
Their debut album "Definitely Maybe" is also good, but no "Morning Glory". The songs are just not as strong. "Live Forever" is a classic. I also like their third album "Be Here Now", which is a little more mellow, but again no "Morning Glory"
They are best known for their egos as the Gallagher brothers actually thought they were the next coming of the Beatles. It gave them an edge that no other 90's bands really had. Everyone else was too busy acting depressed.

I agree with Jimmy, I wouldn't say I'm the worlds biggest fan of theirs, but IMHO I would give Definitely Maybe a little more credit. Several other tracks on there I like, Supersonic, Cigarettes..., Shakermaker. Be Here Now would be my 3rd album of theirs and I think I've heard maybe 4 songs from the last 2 albums so I can't really comment on them, but judging from how they have fallen from consumers graces over the last several years I don't think they're destined to become the next Zeppelin 4 or Who's Next either.

As mentioned, (What's The Story) Morning Glory is a must-own album, and is probably the place to start. Their debut, Definitely Maybe, and their third LP, Be Here Now, are also very good. I'd recommend those if you like Morning Glory. Their two most recent albums (Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants & Heathen Chemistry) are kind of inconsistent and stale sounding, based on the standards that they've set for themselves, but I don't think you can say Oasis has made a bad album yet.
If you don't want to take the plunge on a whole album yet, download 'Live Forever' and 'Champagne Supernova' and see if you like.

Oh, and as far as followers of the band are concerned, Travis was a pretty obvious one back around the time of their debut, but they've since mellowed out. The Stereophonics owe a great deal to Oasis though...as do Ash, The Cooper Temple Clause and Ocean Colour Scene. Not exactly acts anyone the US has heard of, but you asked...
