I'm gonna try to post some of these type of obscure songs from time to time instead of more recent, or overly popular hits, more so because I think it's cool if someone else actually knows these, but mainly because I hope someone here says "i wanna learn about some good old stuff, let's check these out." if neither comes to fruition, I can always brush up on my typing skills...
Anywase, New Musik was an act who came along from Epic records in 1979 with a 10inch EP that this and other songs were on. Epic released a few of these albums in 1979, because the industry was in a slump and it was a sort of novelty that got suckers, i mean record buyers (ok take your pick) into the stores supposedly. The Clash - Black Market Clash, and a Cheap Trick release as well as at least one other were among the albums sent out in this short lived gimmick. Epic also released a couple of singles as A-sides only, Paul Carrack's "I Need You" was the one I bought.
Anyway, this is simply an amazing slice of very early new wave power pop, and the album that it was eventually released from in 1980 "Straight Lines: from A to B" or something arty like that, was a huge seed being planted for much of the early to mid new wave period that eventually became a cash cow for record labels. In fact, Tony Mansfield, as the leader of New Musik, was also responsible for shaping Naked Eyes sound for their fine album that spawned a few big hits (another thread on this board.) And the Fisher of Naked Eyes fame also became the Fisher of Climie Fisher fame, they had a medium sized hit with "Love Changes Everything" in the mid 80s.
See how everything works out?? I always kinda dug the way these things go and how one person became this and that and so on and so forth.
If you're into new wave or are curious to hear some of its early stuff, I beg you to check this out, you will not be disappointed, simply awesome well crafted pop which shoulda been a big hit.
I just edited because of some poor spelling.
