Apparently this song is still getting played alot at my college........especially during our school's riot Monday night/Tuesday morning. I know this was one of the first songs that dealt with the Rodney King incident in 1992 & in general the racial discrimination between the police & African Americans that occured during the late 80's - early 90's.....and is still going on today. If you have heard this song before.....what do you think about this song?

IIRC, this came out long before the Rodney King incidents. But I do remember the song and it became an anthem for minorities who felt that they were always feeling the upper hand of police power.

The album didn't surface here on the East Coast until 1989, it had already been out a half year before we had heard it. There's much better on the "Straight Outta Compton" album, such as the title cut which was certainly a powerful introduction to the band, and the popular cuts like "Express Yourself" and "Gangsta Gangsta."
As for the song itself, I liked it in the day and it will certainly be recognized as part of American music history because of its content and for the album its from, but it's only about my 6th choice for a song to listen to from the SOC disc, which is, IMO, one of the 5 greatest rap albums ever.

I think "Cop Killer" by Ice T came out around the time of the Rodney King incident.
While, I personally don't care for this song, I agree with Stevie that this album definitely has a place amongst the most important albums of all time. It changed rap music.

Love this song, my second favorite from them behind "Straight Outta Compton". JAM!
