This was the second single from David Gray's breakthrough album "White Ladder", the fourth studio album overall.
After "Babylon" took David Gray to adult alternative stardom with critical acclaim, and in addition making the Top 10 on Hot AC, "Please Forgive Me", which didn't quite follow-up as impressively commerically, was also a critically-acclaimed single release.
With the beautiful piano arrangements blended with bouncy percussion and techno beats, included with heartfelt lyrics, this is considered a grand part of "White Ladder".
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Bleh, the song was just ok. I liked Babylon a lot more.

Yeah, I remember this well. I'm surprised this didn't do at least a little better, but I'm going to assume it was underpromoted (except at Triple A).
I remember seeing the video quite a bit on MTV2 (which was where I saw a lot of artists I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise) in 2001. The video was pretty good. I think it was a guy and a girl standing on the street with everyone passing by at warp speed, meanwhile Gray is floating in the air above them playing the piano. I don't remember it too well, since it's been like three years since I've last seen it. But the song was kinda relaxing and enjoyable, and it contributed its tiny little piece to the summer of 2001.

Very good song, but a little low key for most audiences. I liked it a lot.

Very good song, but a little low key for most audiences. I liked it a lot. I, in partial, agree here. However, when released to radio, the single version was shortened in duration and the percussion was made more up-tempo and made it sound more "retro". So I can see why it failed to reach the status of "Babylon" but still it was overlooked. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I like the melody. There's just something about David Gray's voice that I dislike. Same thing with "Babylon".

Great song. One of the few non-SJ songs that works decently on smooth jazz, too. I think that it might not have done well on pop because it didn't follow pop-song format... for one, there was no chorus. How exactly the radio edit was shortened was by cutting off the last verse after "Please forgive me / for I act a little strange." The video for this song kicked @$$ too, with him playing piano in the air and then it crashing to the ground at the end.
