Before matchbox 20 (now matchbox twenty) would rise to the top of the world with their diamond-certified "Yourself Or Someone Like You", Rob Thomas took part in a band with two of his other matchbox buddies (Brian Yale, Paul Doucette) named "Tabitha's Secret", a Florida local sensation.
Despite never achieving mainstream fame, Tabitha's Secret was a favorite throughout Florida, with Hard Rock Cafe Orlando being a constant welcome location.
They made three releases; an LP titled "Don't Play With Matches" featuring raw, authentic recordings of favorites like "Forever December", "Dear Joan" and "Jesus Was An Alien", a live record, and "Tabitha's Secret?", which is essentially not a re-mix album but a number of their studio recordings polished with digital re-mastering, which also featured "And Around".
The band would come to an end in 1995 when Rob received an invitation to Atlantic Records, but could only choose two others to follow him (I am not sure exactly why that was the case). Jay Stanley and John Goff were consequentially left behind, which since has scarred the relationship between Rob Thomas and Jay Stanley, the two leading forces of Tabitha's Secret.
Though Tabitha's Secret is no more, both their Florida loyalists and new matchbox twenty fans have kept their legacy secure, with rare tracks STILL in the process of being fully recovered and remastered.
Have you listened to their music? What do you think of it, and how do you compare it with hat of matchbox twenty?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Hey Noah, Was just listening to Tabitha's Secret? this morning on the way to work. As I listened I wondered if there was a way to ever find out how many of the TS CD's have sold since MB20 has taken off. I love the TS songs, especially Dear Joan, Swing, Tired, and Blue Monday. Rob's voice has certainly matured and gotten better since then. I've heard stories about the break-up before. But I've heard that the record company didn't like any of TS other than Rob. I heard Rob convinced them to take Paul and Brian too but they dumped John and Jay because they were hesitant to sign the deal. I get the impression that there is bad blood between them to this day. Kinda sad.
Can we expect new TS recordings? Sounds intriguing.
