Does anyone remember this song that peaked right around number 30 on Billboard, and number 13 R&R in the summer of 1982? As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best hits they ever released. Why didn't it do very well? Was it the fact it was like the fourth or fifth single from their album?

I just heard a clip of it and I barely recall it.

This was one of many songs that illustrated how diverse Billboard and R&R's pop charts were back in 1982. The song peaked at #13 on R&R and I don't think even made the Top 30 on Billboard's Hot 100. Throughout 1983, however, the two charts began to become more and more alike and by 1985, they weren't very different at all.

Peaked at #33 on the Hot 100.
I'm listening to it right now... yeah, it's pretty good, and probably should've performed better. Maybe radio was just burned out on Hall & Oates (they'd had 6 consecutive big hits in the previous 15 months)... although their next single "Maneater" rocketed to #1 just a few months after "Your Imagination" fell off the chart. Oh well...

Sorry to disagree - Hall & Oates was hit or miss with me. This one was a miss. I didn't like it and thought the charts fairly treated this song.
However, when John Oates song lead on "Italian Girls", about 9 months later and it did not hit the Top 40 that was disappointing because it was played heavily on local radio making their Top 30 countdown.

I did a little research, and this was actually the sixth single from their album at the time. The song did hit the Dick Clark National Music Survey for a few weeks. Billme, what didn't you like about this song? I thought the music was really catchy, and the verses were good. I loved the beat to this song. The only thing I thought was wrong was that they repeated the chorus "Your Imagination" too many times.

What were the other two singles?
All I remember were:
Private Eyes I Can't Go For That Did It In A Minute Your Imagination

The only thing I thought was wrong was that they repeated the chorus "Your Imagination" too many times. I suppose what turned me off was the lack of a guitar-driven sound like "Did It In A Minute". Also, it didn't have that much of a Pop feel as some of their other songs.

I was thinking that "Kiss On My List" and "You Make My Dreams" were also from the same L.P. Guess I'm getting old and forgetful.

Speaking of "Kiss On My List", anyone notice how much "Private Eyes" sounded like that song? And both songs went to #1 in 1981. " Did It In A Minute" also sounded vaguely like them, but that song couldn't seem to push past "'65 Love Affair" and "Ebony And Ivory" on the charts, but still, #3 was a good peak.
So the chorus was repeated too many times, huh? ("Hole In The World", anyone?)

Excellent song! One of my favorties by Hall & Oates. It hit number 13 on the Radio and Records charts. 27-22-16-14-13-13-27

This is the only one of their eighties boom period singles I never heard on the radio at some point. Just kind of average for me...

Love it. Some of my favorites by them are their lesser hits.

Probably would've done better if it'd been the followup to "I Can't Go For That"; probably would've hit #9 like "Did It In A Minute" did instead!
