I love this song. The American is a great album, but this is definitely the track that stands out to me. I saw Angie live in Atlanta a few years ago. I had no clue who he was before that, but he was incredible. Great live performer.

I thought it was great, although many people never knew and will never know who the artist is. I'd consider him a zero-hit wonder.

Somehow the artist and title sound familiar. Did it ever go for adds on R&R?

I don't know, but I think in early 2000 it had minor success on Triple A and Alternative.

One of my professors just mentioned Angie in class today and how he knows him. Basically, it was to say how Faith Hill recorded his song "Cry."
The moment was gone too quickly before I could throw this in, but after class I told him how my local radio station up in the St. Louis area (KNSX) had played all three of Angie's singles from The American, including "Cry" in the spring & summer of '01. Then in the fall of '02 I saw Faith Hill's new single was called "Cry," and when I finally heard it, I was like, "Holy s**t, this is that Angie Aparo tune!" I'm probably one of the few people in Memphis that actually knows that.
Then I mentioned to him a similar experience with "Breathe" by the St. Louis-based band Greenwheel, which was actually a very minor national hit. Then when I finally heard Melissa Etheridge's song a year ago, naturally I went, "Holy s**t, this is that Greenwheel tune!"
Good to see that if these guys aren't ever going to be stars in their own right, at least they've gotten some pretty fatass royalty checks lately. It's just weird to hear obscure songs made more famous by popular artists.
