Before U2 dominated the world with "The Joshua Tree", U2 was impacting Alternative radio fresh off the release of "The Unforgettable Fire".
After "Pride (In The Name of Love)" hit, "Bad" was released, a track over six minutes long. Despite its duration, quite being up to par with "Pride" on a mainstream level, it graced Alternative airwaves with its darker, haunting sound atmosphere and Bono's somber and emotional lyrics, which become fully charged in the climax:
"If I could, you know I would If I could, I would Let it go...
This desparation Dislocation Separation Condemnation Revelation In temptation Isolation Desolation Let it go"
The single indeed hit the soft spots in many hearts and became a second hit off of that record. I consider this one of U2's deepest and poignant tracks, joining classics like "With Or Without You", "Where The Streets Have No Name" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It sounds like an epic building up to something.

Love it. The live version on Wide Awake In America is even better than the album version.
