I'm confused. How can you say it's "pretty clear" it is not catching on as fast as the other singles? It's catching on faster than the last three. I'm not sure about SUBG. But it's already picking up speed worldwide as well. Do you have charts comparing the first month of SUBG and NA? WA and NA?

FYI - NA's bullet is still higher than Walk Away's bullet was at this point in its chart history. The only time WA's bullet was over 800 was when it was between #25-30. When it was at #22 as NA is now, WA had a bullet of 735 compared to NA's bullet of 828. The bullet is just balancing out after a crazy adds period. Kelly's songs have not skyrocketed to the top in the past. It's a steady race that lasts much longer than most songs, and that's a good thing. Who knows what will happen with this song, but IMO it's definitely too soon to start making assumptions that this song is not going to catch on.
WALK AWAY HISTORY (2006): Jan. 14.....33 27 KELLY CLARKSON Walk Away 2004 RCA/RMG 2348 1448 900 19.647 Jan. 16.....31 24 KELLY CLARKSON Walk Away 2004 RCA/RMG 2533 1765 768 20.716 Jan. 18.....29 22 KELLY CLARKSON Walk Away 2004 RCA/RMG 2757 2022 735 21.942
NEVER AGAIN HISTORY (2007): April 26.....30 23 KELLY CLARKSON Never Again 2007 RCA/RMG 2859 1556 1303 19.508 April 28.....27 23 KELLY CLARKSON Never Again 2007 RCA/RMG 2961 2045 916 19.834 April 30.....24 22 KELLY CLARKSON Never Again 3245 2417 828 21.167
Notice both songs gained 400 spins over the 5 days.
(Thanks to KCE and directorsandy for making the daily updates that track this history for us, and in a thread that doesn't get swamped with a lot of conversation. Makes it very useful later on!!)
ETA: Just for the fun of it, here's BOY's stats around the same point on the chart:
BECAUSE OF YOU (2005) HISTORY: Aug. 30.....31 24 KELLY CLARKSON Because Of You 2004 RCA/RMG 2286 1514 772 20.965 Sept. 1......26 24 KELLY CLARKSON Because Of You 2004 RCA/RMG 2454 1817 637 22.900 Sept. 3......25 18 KELLY CLARKSON Because Of You 2004 RCA/RMG 2617 1997 620 24.343
FYI - BOY had a bullet over 1,000 just a few days earlier when it was at #28. Obviously, the song ended up doing pretty well in the end.

thanks OU for bringing a little dose of reality back into this thread. In comparing Kelly previous singles NA is way out in front in terms of radio play and chart position. Her other songs were slow builders, first singles due to the new sound and relative lack of "credibility" Kelly had at first, later singles may have suffered due in large part to heavy recurrent play because radio tends to latch onto a Kelly song and refuses to let go for a long time. Heck two years later and Kelly's still getting better recurrent play with her old stuff than MANY artists are with their latest singles.

success of a song isn't chart success...
success is that the song is good and remembered in time
I think that this song isn't what I expected for a 1st single from Kelly Clarkson, she's one of my favorite artists...
I hope that she has better songs on the album
and she's getting airplay from her old stuff because her last album and singles were pure pop perfection...
Let's wait for the video..

Which is the remix version? I heard this song on the radio, but it had a techno vibe to it...i'm guessing that was the remix? Anyways if thats the remix I think it sounds really good. There are a couple of remixes out there. One is the Jason Nevins www.myspace.com/hoshgureliAnd the other is the Dave Aude www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUvR2TpyMKII love the NasonJason Nevins mix! I do too! As much as the original!

Well hopefully what she wants and loves is what I want and love on the rest of the album. You wanna know a reason why I think music sucks these days? Because good artists like Kelly are taking a step in the wrong direction. Some of my favorite artists in the past have taken that wrong step and never recovered (Alanis Morissette), some have (Mariah Carey), I just hope Kelly soon makes a step in the right direction.

Its not a step in the wrong direction. Doing what you want is not the wrong step, its called being an artist. Alanis Morissette does what she wants and frankly has that license after the early success. Kelly can do the same. It has nothing to do with the quality of the music because it got better. It may not be as "radio friendly" but its them and thats real music. People are complaining because this isnt "pop perfection" because its not and Kelly is not "Pop Perfection". She has changed. Get over it and get used to it because if I have ever seen an artist, she is one and wont change for chart success. If this doesnt go top 10, its still a great song and a new exciting direction. Its darker, and angry, and it's catchy. Just because it's not pop doesnt mean it cant be. Music sucks because singers never step in a new direction, they stand in the same place their whole careers. There are too few artists who truly evolve and put their heart in their music and let that dictate the music.

What's going on with Mediabase ? All the audience impressions of songs decrease. I have no idea!!

There are too few artists who truly evolve and put their heart in their music and let that dictate the music. You're running a fine line between opinion and fact. It's all a matter of perspective. In my view, it is a step in the wrong direction because "Never Again" sucks and I was majorly disappointed, and I have a feelings its going to show in her chart success (but it may not). For her, I'm sure she doesn't give a damn whether this song does well or not... and good for her, but it's not all about her, it's about the music. You say the quality of her music got better, I disagree... "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because of You" were both far superior to this mess of a song (and I don't think SUBG was better in quality, just catchier). All I'm saying is that it's possible to evolve and still release good music... and I don't feel like she succeeded with that this time around.

^Artist has both good and bad song. You can't be perfect all the time.
And this song is just not that bad like you've said IMO.

I'd rather Kelly stabalize and slow down now to avoid a burn so she can shoot up when she's higher:
Ooo look at the act who had a WAY better 2nd week than Kelly, had +1000 more at this point actually:
11 8 MAROON 5 Makes Me Wonder 5263 4980 283 29.852
mmm hmmm mmm hmm mmm hmmm. Can you say burnout? So now M5 is gonna stay at #8 for a LOOOOONG time, I'm guessing 3 weeks. Btw I love this song too so don't think I'm hating on M5, just using an example. Least it pulled MUCH better than a Deja Vu and I have no doubt it will climb back up but see where their IMPRESSIVE second week got them? Kelly is doing just fine.

I'm sorry. Here's how it is.
This song is not doing as well as people thought her first single would. It is NOT going to be one of her biggest hits, but one of her biggest disappointments is a possibility.
I think this will crash by June, HOWEVER
I do think she will follow up with a more faimilar sound, her best off of her album
See 'Matchbox Twenty'- Disease, for exact same chart run, exact same follow up. Thoughts?

i hope kelly has a back-up plan. the song breakaway did not first get me but subg did. still breakaway was better than this song. even miss independent sounded better to me.
She better release some press info saying what her next single is so we can anticipate it.

I like the video... but the end doesn't make much sense, lol. Also the white suit doesn't really fit in the band scene.

ITS AWESOME!!! You know its gotta be good if the most negative person on this thread doesnt just like the color of the band's room. And the ending is very artsy - allowing different interpretations. I see it as the realization that the perfection people expect isn't reality - kinda like she's been saying in the radio interviews.

was the band scenes (kelly in white) filmed at a different time? she looks much thinner in those scenes than any other.
