I heard this last night, and even though I liked it a little bit, I was disappointed. The fact that it's a rock band playing one of the most sugary pop songs anyone could think of is good for something, but unfortunately, that's all there is to it. After hearing their first two singles, I thought for sure they'd do something satirical with this song and put their own stamp on it, but it's really nothing more than a rock version of a pop song. They probably took the making of this song more seriously than they did any of their own songs.
Well, maybe the video will be different.
But I already know most of you are going to hate this song just because it's by Bowling For Soup anyway.

It's quite the interesting remake, I don't mind it.

I've never really considered Bowling for Soup a rock band in my opinion. There really just like Simple Plan.

I don't even remember the bands names who also did it, but people have been doing rock versions of BOMT since it was still popular.
Keep in mind that 'Bowling For Soup' means less to most people than Ahmet and Dweezil Zappa, I know for a fact that not ONE of my friends have ever heard of them.

Fountains of Wayne did one of the first I'm aware of, back in 1999. They didn't try to be funny or add hard guitars; it's pretty straight-faced and it actually came out well.

The acoustic version Travis did for VH1 Storytellers is top notch. Fran Healy couldn't keep from laughing during the song due to the crowd's reaction.

It's decent up to the chorus. Hearing a scrawny little teenager screaming "hit me baby one more time" off-key just creeps me out.
