"Happy" is #26 on the US iTunes Top Songs chart. "Happy" is featured in the TV commercials for the new feature film, "Precious." So that's why there is a renewed interest in the song. I think J Records should send "Happy" to Urban and Urban AC radio. You are kidding rigth! there is no way that urban radio will touch this even if it is on the trailer of a Black movie. If Mariah is not doing well with IWKWLI at urban ac, Leona sure won't.
I am amazed that ac radio or hot ac hasn't touched Happy. This song is geared for their format and if 'already gone' by Kelly Clarkson could get aiprla on top 40, then it is puzzling why Happy is losing spins and out of top 40 on mediabase charts. The song has great vocals but no emotion or connection for me but that is just me. It is weird what's going on with her music here. I agree with the bolded parts. Urban Ac wont touch Happy or a Leona song in fact, she's just way too 'Pop' I guess. The only song that could remotely do anything on Urban Ac is Can't Breathe but they still probably wouldnt play it. Great to see Happy climbing on Itunes though, hopefully Leona isnt too sick to perform on Dancing With The Stars tommorow.

Who wants airplay on Urban = Hip Pop stations anyway? They have no listeners and the music doesn't sell. It's why Amercian radios are turned off and people don't buy commercial albums anymore. Apart from those who are promoted into the matter of course. Fact is it's a minority group.
Hip Pop = soulless R&B with Pop music sensibilites and Rap music beats. R&B is about the Soul, without its power it's just weak watered down nonsense. The art of Hip Hop was its political content and flow of words, but mostly that lyrical aspect. As soon as it became sold for Pop its lyrical art went gone. Pop = popular. In this case it means the default music the industry has sold throughout the decade. Attach the shallow lyrics and overall bubblegum aspect and you have Hip Pop. Sold for "black" sound being an excuse for low quality music to me. An insult to the community. The industry hides behind definitions.
A true artist IMO doesn't limit to a genre, meaning: a formula set by the industry. A true artist would create their own unique sound to set them apart from all the rest in diverse quality sound. Leona is AC Pop, Pop Rock, Dance Pop and R&B. Okay: a little Alternative every once in a while what I don't like so much, but apart from that good mix. Pop = popular once more. But here it means art of sound set as the higher standard by a general audience: melody that is pleasant and artistic to the hearing.
I like Pulse. Yes, I made it through the DJ shouts to hear the song, but usually my radio also gets turned off whenever they shout through their programming. IMO.

Heard the no shouts version of the Pulse song now. Also should've been included on Echo IMO. It's something else. Catchy, melodic feel good tune. From the mood setting keyboard verses to its smart uplifting chorus, it sounds like a good song to me.

Leona's second single is "Outta My Head." The annoucement was made on Radio 1. Thank god. They better recognize that its also her only chance to remain relevant on US radio and release it as the 2nd single here pronto.

I just don't think Outta My Head is that good. It's kind of annoying and feels kind of anemic rather than anthemic. I think you're putting too much faith in that one.

I think Urban and Urban AC audiences will love this song. "Happy" is number 26 on US iTunes Top Songs chart so obviously the people who love the "Precious" movie love this song. Also, J Records sent "Bleeding Love" to Urban radio. Leona is NOT Mariah or Kelly. She is her own artist. trust me, urban and urban ac won't give her the time of day. First, she's not riffing and singing in an r&b style, second the lyrics are too 'happy', no pain, strife, getting over, no common talk i.e too sophisticated for urban radio and finally, no beats. I would think that her next song here would be up temp to mid tempo. I'm worried aobut her album here. Far too many releases coming out for her to get lost in the shuffle.

lol @ this quote on aol: The British R&B singer worked with an all-star cast of producers for her second album. she is no not r&b- she's pop. 'Outta my Head'--- I am not sure how this will play. This sounds like electronica- perhaps if they remix this with some harder beats.

OMG! I'm half way listening to this album and I'm trying not to stop and turn it off. I started at 'outta my head' and after that song, this album is dragging so bad. I'm at 'Don't let me down'.
Too much bland ballads. Her voice is pretty but it doesn't make me FEEL. I don't know...I did like 'my hands' but i didn't like 'brave, 'don't let me down', 'Alive'fly here right now' omg, all of these songs are starting to sound alike and run together.
I can't see this album doing well here and i'm trying to be objective. She needs some beats. Who selected her material -----> #sucks so far- sounds 1980s i.e 'fly here right now';Broken, I got you-
I did like 'lost then found'. Breathe is very good and stands apart.
I'm just going to stop- this album won't do well here. It sounds the same- too many ballads, even the mid-tempos sound similar i.e music etc nothing stands out. I wish her luck but I just don't see it doing well here. I hope that I'm wrong.
Outta my head probably makes the most sense for the next single as it is catchy and uptempo.

Are they really that worried? ??? I'm kind of surprise that J Records is doing this since this is not their thing. Island Def Jam and Interscope love the Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day specials for all their new releases.

That's Amazon's daily deal, it'll be a different album tomorrow. Are they really that worried? ??? I'm kind of surprise that J Records is doing this since this is not their thing. Island Def Jam and Interscope love the Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day specials for all their new releases. It's about time J Records got with the times & learned how to play the game. They're way too old-school.

What should it have sounded like in your opinion? 1970's? 1990's? 60's? Or perhaps 50's? Music is supposed to be timeless to me, not to be categorized by decades and other numbers. I only know good and bad. What the industry has been selling this decade I basically consider the latter. So what you're saying is that she should sell out to that just because it's what the industry has been selling throughout the decade - Hip Pop? Yeah: you're probably promoted into the matter, but it's a minority group. It doesn't satisfy the masses. And now everybody's favorite part of here: $$$. This is why music doesn't sell. So that style is going out of fashion fast now with the upcoming Pop Rock and Dance Pop movement only putting her behind. Just a little explaining from my side, maybe you get something out of it. ;) My only issue with the album is that it's a little too much of the same, ballads like you say. Also some Alternative = minimal productions. That requires work. IMO.

They're way too old-school. Not necessarily. Mariah's MOIAn was priced at $5.99 for a week and Jay Z's Blueprint 3 was priced at $3.99 for a week or two. I think that she is in trouble saleswise in the States. The album has no buzz or single at radio. J rarely does this lowering price- I haven't seen any of their acts lately do this, not even Mario who had poor sales.

Also some Alternative = minimal productions. That requires work. IMO. Listen, music taste is subjective. I know what I like and I'ld like to think that i have a good ear for music. Alot of the songs on her cds have an '80s feel to it. I agree the goal is to make timeless music but the music should also be somewhat relevant to the times at some point. To some degree the artist should try to stay true to their self, however, labels are in this game to turn a profit and to that end, the artist also have to be aware that they need to make an album that will sell or risk being dropped or not selling. Leona has a beautiful voice. I think that they should have tried to take more risks with her. singing poppy tunes is fine but throw in a song or two with some beats, try a few urban tunes. Overall, my main issue is her voice just doesn't touch me and that is not her fault. It's my taste.

Leona getting the Amazon MP3 Deal of the Day is a good thing. The twitter page for Amazon MP3 has over 1 million followers. So those people that are following are potential customers. twitter.com/amazonmp3
