Is this the first week on the charts that the single says "Featuring Randy Travis?" I only look at Billboard/R&R every few weeks and I don't recall it saying "Featuring" until this week (or since the last time I looked at it). Have you seen the official chart, or are you going by what was posted in the Hot 100 forum? What is posted there doesn't always match the official chart in terms of credits. Have these artists brought people to country music, or just to their own music? There's a difference. I doubt someone who hears the pop version of "Love Story" on their Top 40 station is now investigating Merle Haggard.

Have these artists brought people to country music, or just to their own music? There's a difference. Very good point, particularly in today's world when you can obsessively follow your favorite country artist without almost ever being exposed to any other country music. Carrie just being a popular country artist won't do a whole lot to bring fans to country music. Carrie consistently showing an appreciation and respect for the tradition of country music, performing country classics, acknowledging country legends...that's what I think brings some of her fans to country music. I'm all about more fans being exposed to country music but my concern with Lord Ectar's post was the negative tone addressed toward Randy. While acknowledging that you don't listen to country music is a valid preface, stating that you usually hate country music really doesn't cause me to want to hear any more of your opinions on the genre you hate.

This is exactly what made me listen to other country music. Even when she was on AI, I never heard some of the songs she sang and I decided to check out the original artists because of her.
I have now discovered Patty Loveless, Trisha and tons of other great country artists because of what Carrie has opened me up to. I must admit, I have fallen in love with country music and I can't believe it took me song long to actually have an appreciation for it. :)

Maybe not Merle Haggard, but some of my friends who discovered Rascal Flatts soon found out that other popular country groups were just as good (kenny, keith, lady antebellum...)

The duet version of the song is nice enough, but I think it works better as a solo. But, it is nice to see Randy getting some attention again, and it also works to secure Carrie's image as a 'pure' country singer, and not one who is only interested in a crossover career, so the duet more than serves its purpose.

I think the duet version is infinitely stronger than the solo. Randy's voice is pretty epic, and his phrasings accompanied with Carrie's harmonies create a great vocal/emotional interpretation of an otherwise simple song.

The duet is going to guarantee her another #1.

Does the single take his vocals from the original version or have the vocals been re-recorded? I haven't heard the studio version yet.

No I believe it is a totally new version, and very well done. They also sing together at a few parts, and the harmony is amazing.

Well, listening to Britney Spears does not automatically make someone look up Paula Abdul hits from 1989 either. However, if one was flipping through the radio and the Carrie (or Taylor Swift song was on) they will probably stop, listen to it, and then perhaps like what they hear next.

No. The way the country charts work, songs usually only move up a couple spots each week once they reach the top 10 - especially with a lot of competition. My guess would be that Carrie will probably reach #1 by the middle of May, and stay there for 1 or 2 weeks.

^ Yeah, nearly all of the songs ahead of "ITYS" have bullets, so it's going to be slow going in getting to the top.

This song is really blowing up, which is great because when I first heard Carnival Ride I was like 'uh oh, the remake is the best song on the album...' but then she cleverly released it and even brought the original singer/songwriter on board. Great idea. This has already gone to #1 on the UK country iTunes chart which makes it her biggest hit to date in that country.

^ You are kidding? Wow! ITYS hit number 1 on the UK itunes chart? That is amazing!
Is there an actual radio station in the UK that might play some of Carrie's country songs, or is that wishful thinking? thanx!

ITYS is the type of song Europeans tend to eat up, a slow ballad with soaring vocals.

Because "Love Story" is really big there...and I would be really surprised if ITYS sold better than it for even a week...

Have you seen the official chart, or are you going by what was posted in the Hot 100 forum? What is posted there doesn't always match the official chart in terms of credits. Zazie already answered the question, but it was the official chart. I don't even read the Hot 100 forum, only because I'm not a fan of the Hot 100. (Judging by your post, I assume they talk about other charts in that forum than just the Hot 100 itself. But I wouldn't know that since I don't read that forum :) ).

I'm listening to the duet version now. I'm really good at picking out a re-recording from the original, and the parts where it's just Carrie are definitely from the original recording (minus Vince Gill's backing vocals). Only the Randy Travis duet parts got re-recorded, it seems.

The Carrie part minus Vince was pretty easy to figure out.
How about the Randy part? Is that from his original recording too? And Carrie just added her harmony vocals?

ITYS is the type of song Europeans tend to eat up, a slow ballad with soaring vocals. agree. a fully promoted Carrie album in the Europe and Oz with the following singles would do stellar: 1. Before He Cheats 2. I Told You So (with Randy Travis) 3. Wasted 4. Jesus Take the Wheel (this was #80 on the UK iTunes Pop chart yesterday)
