I do not like the idea of Hook Up being the second single.

I love the fact that IDNHU is on the album!... and i wouldn't call it a "Katy Perry dud" either.. Like Kelly said, Katie couldn't have IDNHU and IKAG on the same album... its kind of contradicting. I'm sure that's why it didn't make the cut.

Thanks for the links. I don't get to hear/see many KC interviews, so this was a treat. I like how Kelly describes what's on the album. Sounds very promising.

I thought it was interesting to hear her describe it as her "throwback" album. It sounds cool.

Leona Lewis is all set to debut next week on the Top 40 chart with her third hit, "I Will Be," and at presstime, Kelly Clarkson's new hit "My Life Would Suck Without You" was being delivered to radio. From Spin: Editors' BlogKelly Clarkson: Is Her New Music Any Good?SPIN's Ellen Carpenter on the just released single from the most loveable American Idol contestant ever.By Ellen Carpenter Kelly Clarkson and I have never met, but I bet if we did, we'd totally hit it off. We'd go out for drinks -- but end up ordering pear-tinis and chocolate mousse -- and we'd talk about old high school crushes, the first time we got drunk, and how it's so weird that we still like Brad Pitt but hate Angelina. She'd dish on Clive Davis and I'd trash my coworkers and then, after a couple of pear-tinis, I'd dare her to send a drink to the cute hoodie-clad loner at the bar. ("Look, he's, like, writing in a journal!" I'd goad her. "OMG, he must be deep," Kelly'd pretend to gush -- so loud he'd turn and look, causing us both to erupt into giggles.) By midnight, we'd be making plans to see Marley and Me and go shopping at Anthropologie the next day. Total slumber party. But while I like to imagine that Kelly and I would be bosom buddies, I honestly believe anybody would hit it off with her. And therein lies my dilemma: Does Kelly's likeability cloud our ability to actually hear her music? This week Kelly released "My Life Would Suck Without You," the first single from her upcoming album All I Ever Wanted (due March 17). Like many, I was put off by the affectedly chatty song title, but after three listens, I decided that, "suck" aside, I liked it. It was catchy, it was upbeat, it was the perfect song for the elliptical machine at the gym. On my fourth playback, I grinned and bobbed my head along to the synthetic snares, letting the bleepy keyboards and Kelly's breathy vocals wash over me like a chocolate fountain. And then it hit me: This wasn't a very good song. I wanted to like it. I wanted to believe it was on par with her supremely awesome kiss-off anthem "Since U Been Gone." But it's not. Sure, it has the same edgy guitar lead-off, but her vocals sound robotic, empty, and -- can it be? -- AutoTuned. The lyrics are vapid and vaguely anti-feminist ("I'm nothing without you"???) and there's not even a bridge or a key change to liven things up. It sounds like it was made in a lab -- and in a way it was, at the Swedish hit-factory of Dr. Luke and Max Martin, the bubble gum-pop savants responsible for Britney, Katy Perry and, of course, Kelly's "Since U Been Gone." I don't know the details behind her new album. Did label head Clive Davis threaten to drop her if she dared write her own songs like she did on 2007's My December? Did she just strike a deal to include a couple of radio-ready singles in exchange for creative freedom elsewhere? Or did she realize it's a lot less emotionally draining to just let RCA call the shots? I mulled all of this over as I played the song again, this time forcing my two male officemates to listen. "I really want to like it," one of them said. "I hope it's still a big hit," added the other. No matter how much we disliked it, we were still rooting for Kelly. How could you not? American Sweethearts don't come much sweeter. She uses phrases like "cool beans," calls cookies "soul food," and somehow managed to make us forget From Justin to Kelly. She's sold more than 20 million albums and yet she still seems like that girl voted "class favorite" in high school. She hasn't been slapped with a DUI, she doesn't own a Chihuahua and she hasn't collaborated with Timbaland. She's, you know, just Kelly.

Kelly just said in her radio interview that Hook Up is on the album and will most likely be the 2nd single! Wow, I am disappointed that it even made the record and to hear that it will "probably" be the second single, ummm Thank the lord that 'Save You' made the record !!!

The song is so great- the verse music is instantly likeable- the chorus though it takes about 6 or 7 listens for it to fully "click" with you but when it does, it just blows you away- I like it better than SUBG myself- this is a smash! Kelly Superstar is BACK!

I really like "I Do Not Hook Up". I don't mind Katy's vocals as many people seem to because I think she has an innate musicality in the way she sings and excellent phrasing, much like Rihanna. Both aren't the greatest vocalists, but you can tell they have the music in them. Anyway, I like the song. I think Kelly's singing on it will be fantastic of course and think it will be a hit. I think personally that a more mid-tempo song would be better as a second single though, because "I Do Not Hook Up" is very, very, upbeat as is MLWSWY, and a change of pace for the second release would imo be better. Maybe "Hoop Up" might be better as a 3rd song, and then one of the big ballads as the 4th release.

I listened to "Hook Up" on YouTube last night. Katy's vocals are grating in parts, but I know that Kelly will really be able to sell that song.
And it follows in the tradition of Miss Independent (Xtina), Breakaway (Avril), and the Lohan song that Clive wanted on My December, although I don't think that's the best route to go. Sure, she takes other singers' trash and turns it into irresistible pop, but it seems like new songs could be written for her in a similar vein. It just kinda cheapens her image.

DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME AND EVERY KELLY CLARKSON FAN OUT THERE. HOOK UP WILL BOMB. BIG TIME. :( I agree that I Do Not Hook Up doesn't sound too great with Katy Perry's voice, but Kelly is in a whole different league when it comes to vocals and delivery. Aside from talent, Kelly has the whole RCA Team supporting her. Their main job will be to advise and ultimately approve what songs get released. They will not let any songs "bomb" this time. And aside from the company's support, she will have every true fan support her and believe in her. I personally don't care what songs she releases as long as I get to hear her voice, and I will support any single she does release. So, Relax! ;) The only way she would turn her back on her fans would be to say "F$#@ Ya'll, I'm Not Singing Anymore". And she's too sweet to do that :)

Will I finally lsitened to Hook Up last night and I really didn't care for it. However, there's no telling what Kelly's take is on the song so I will reserve my judgement until I hear hers.

Kelly could sing "don't Worry Be happy" and make it a top 10 hit. lol It is not always the song itself that matters, but the interpretation, vocals, and emotion.
That is what makes Kelly so talented--- she can make a crappy song solid gold.

Kelly Clarkson
"All I Ever Wanted" (RCA, March 17)
The biz is watching this album closely, since Clarkson's last release, 2007's "My December," was marred by her public feud with Clive Davis over her desire to write her own material. The set has sold 782,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a far cry from the 6 million-plus of 2004's "Breakaway," which featured a number of co-writes with experienced songwriters. "All I Ever Wanted," which sports assistance from Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Howard Benson, is introduced by the single "My Life Would Suck Without You," a propulsive blast of rock-tinged pop that just hit U.S. radio.

A link to the Mediabase Top 40 7-day chart for those who want to track this song once it enters the Top 40 (which should be very soon since it's at #41 now): www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insideradio/charts.asp?format=1&showyear=y&dpt=nBTW, I don't know if this is the "official" chart that is popular here on Pulse, but it's better than nothing for geeks like me who enjoy tracking the several updates each day.
