Pushed back to December 22nd!! This girl loves her holiday sales. She'll have a monster opening week, if it doesn't get pushed back again. Yes, Mary loves holiday sales, and it's becoming pretty transparent that her label is afraid to release her album during a regular week because it might not do to well. That's quite telling. Love Mary, but please! If she doesn't have a hit, then she is not doing 730,000 first week of her sales. She won't even do 623,000 like she did with Growing Pains. Her label doesn't know what to do with this album. |

Being a bitch is a term of endearment.
Mary has a proven track record when it comes to her album sales. She delivers solid albums with strong touring revenue. It doesn't matter how much she sells opening week as ppl will call it a flop if it doesn't match Breakthrough/GP numbers. So this point is moot.

Honey, there is absolutely nothing moot about this point. Love & Life wasn't a huge success, and neither was Growing Pains. Mary's albums usually sell with an Urban and/or Pop hit. "The One" is neither one. "The One" is certainly not a "Be Without You" or even a "Just Fine." Mary is releasing the wrong music to the wrong crowd. Her crowd is much older than Drake's crowd. Therefore, she needs to release something the adults will eat up or she ain't selling no 600k or even going Platinum. Mary has had consistent sales, but she has never been a huge seller overall. No one is safe from flops, not even Mary with her so-called solid fanbase.

I agree that without an urban radio hit, this album's gonna sell off her name alone and won't be as successful. Hopefully I Am is released and takes off in enough time.
As far as producers go, I know she's worked with Darkchild, Stereotypes, Polow, Tricky, Ryan Leslie, Johnta, Stargate, The Runners, and Ne-Yo.

At this point, anything between 200k and 400k is reasonable. She has no hit, no buzz, etc.

Yes, and not to mention, when she got those huge sales, it was the Xmas season and the sales climate was in a much better state in 2005 and 2007. The Xmas season was pretty weak last year, and I expect this season to be no different. |

As stated earlier, it's guaranteed she's not going to exceed previous numbers and because of that, the album will be labeled a flop no matter what singles she releases. So this discussion really isn't going anywhere.

Thats really not true. Marys been a consistent seller in the past without huge 1st week numbers, so even if she doesnt match 600k first week, as long as her sales are consistent as they have always been, she will be fine.
