"Tonal" have remixed this song... For real, why is JIVE still paying this ppl to work on remixes for them!??? I heard the acapella mix for their David's new mix and the time stretch is sooooooooo bad! I swear! I could have done it better even using Sound Forge... Let's see who else is remixing this song (probably Nevins and Rizzo...)

That still wouldn't explain why the mixes get picked up afterwards..

Ahh, well I didn't know if they ended up being released since I've never actually heard a Tonal remix. Ooops.

"Tonal" have remixed this song... EEEEWWWWWW. Nevins will probably turn out with his cheesy guitars and happy synths, which will probably work. I heard the acapella mix for their David's new mix and the time stretch is sooooooooo bad! I swear! I could have done it better even using Sound Forge.. I'm actually surprised people are even touching this. Going from 6/8 --> 4/4 usually doesn't turn out too great. That is, unless the people doing it are talented. Anyone know of someone that's done this decently?

Anyone know of someone that's done this decently? not off the top of my head, but I can think of a who-o-o-o-ole lotta examples where it was done stunningly bad....Celine Dion "A New Day Has Come" instantly comes to mind *shudder* There's a song that never EVER should've been remixed in the first place, the time stretch was just way too challenging. Ditto Janet Jackson "I Want You" - the vocals sounded stilted and awkward. Almighty tried and failed with their remix of Soft Cell's Tainted Love, but somehow Nevins & Cox's mix of Rihanna's SOS didn't sound all that bad. Lenny B did a decent job shifting the 12/8 time signature in Womanizer, but Aaron Paestch did it better, wisely switching the whole tempo midway through the song then back again to 4/4 for the outro. Same thing Jody dB did for xtina - brilliant idea, and executed very very well. One of these times I'd like to see a remixer actually think OUTSIDE the box and produce a remix that KEEPS the 3/4 time signature (at least during the middle/vocal portion) so you'd count like "1-2-3, 1-2-3, etc" and not even have 4-counts in the mix, just 3-count measures. Shoot, they could've done that just fine with Celine Dion, it would've been a nice neat 130 BPM mix.

The dance mixes were garbage, but the Ric Wake mix was fine. Did she resing vocals on that to achieve 4/4?

The dance mixes were garbage, but the Ric Wake mix was fine. Did she resing vocals on that to achieve 4/4? Actually no - I remember reading an interview or message board post from either Josh Harris or Mike Rizzo years ago about these mixes. Whoever it was said some guy at the label (whether it was Ric Wake, another producer, an engineer, etc. or what) took the existing 3/4 album version vocals, and completely re-arranged them so they were in 4/4 time, but KEEPING them at the same speed (neither slowed down nor sped up). Then the label gave THOSE vocals to Rizzo to remix. So I guess he did the best he could with what he got, maybe if he had been given the actual raw acapella things might've worked out differently. I assume things were done the same way with Richie Jones & Chris Panghai's mix, which actually I preferred ever so slightly better than Mike's. Wish I could find that post now, it was probably over on Rico's board eons ago....

Wooh. Tonal comes out with a craptastic mix as expected: LINK Ew. I was expecting it to be much worse. It's just okay. Nothing overly special.

If you take out the mp3 portion of the link, you can get into the directory where the mp3 is kept. Alongside a lot of other things, the acappella version of Tonal's mix is there.

I dunno why remixers and producers are so negligant about webspace security these days, Tonal is like the 3rd or 4th case (that I know of) where a bunch of unreleased stuff has leaked because they haven't hidden the files properly. Great hacker move there Azriel ;)

More to the point, why are they putting stuff like that onto their page if they don't want it leaking? ;)

Great hacker move there Azriel ;) meeh, it wasn't that hard to figure it out More to the point, why are they putting stuff like that onto their page if they don't want it leaking? ;) the correct question here would be: who really cares about Tonal stuff anyway? the only stuff I'd love to get from them would be the UNMIXED acapellas, just look at the one for david's mix, I don't think is that usefull... I wish the acapella for their "Radar" mix was there =( I got the Instrumental version of it, but the inverth method only removes the beats =(

Yeah, you can clearly hear in the Tonal mix how unnatural the vocal editing sounds, the acappella just makes it more blatantly obvious. BTW, I loved Tonal's mix of Break The Ice. That seems to have been the only mix they've been good for though.

I threw down the Drew G & Abe Clements Mix of "Crush" a few times at my club (this was before the Nevins mix came out) and it always seemed to get a decent response. Then again, this is middle America that I live in, and a small-town gay bar....I imagine things might be quite different at a big-city club like NYC or Miami, etc.

Do any clubs even touch his stuff? There might be some out there somewhere. Perhaps these mixes are aimed at Dance radio stations for regular airplay and for mixshows. The local Dance station here barely plays any of the remixes of the Idols. They almost always play the Kelly Clarkson ones though. They played that Jordin/Chris Brown one. And maybe some Kimberley Locke at one point or another. That's about it for now.

Masterbeat is selling a little package of mixes for this song. It includes the Jason Nevins mixes the Tonal mix as well as the Mental Instruments remix. Not too bad...I'm liking the Nevins Mixes and the Tonal mix out of the bunch.

I really wish Nevins stretched the vocals in the same way that Mental Instruments did. His mix would be much better.

I was just letting people know about remixes that were available for purchase on Masterbeat. Considering that over 550 people have looked at this thread...there's clearly an interest in this song and it's remixes.

I know, I know. The Tonal Mixes are never anything out of this world...but on occasion they are alright. For instance, Jordin Sparks' Permanent Monday mix...I don't think we can expect any other mixes for that song so the Tonal Mix is better than nothing. My standards are clearly not very high and I am fine with this.
