I can't take her seriously ever again, the fact that she had to sell out to be popular again... Speaking of jealous h8ers... If working with Dr. Luke is "selling out" then this person should criticize every pop artist out there. I guess Britneym, P!nk, Avril, Katy Perry are all sell-outs too.

That's not why. It's because her REAL sound is her last album, but she conformed to what everybody wanted...

Well, I can see where you are coming from man - but I think the rest of the album is what Kelly is more proud of... to my knowledge, there is only one other Dr. Luke song on the CD.

I believe Kelly is proud of all the songs on this album, including My Life Would Suck Without You (she raves about it too much not to be). Kelly has said many, many times that she loves such a variety of music and that each one of her albums would be different from the last. I don't know why people were expecting another My December here, honestly. Kelly doesn't have one particular sound anyway so I don't know where this "real Kelly" thing is coming from. She's dabbled in many genres through out her career (pop/pop rock/r&b/country etc). I think all of her albums have contained the "real" Kelly. People's moods change, their lives change. My December, for the most part, was a pretty dark album (hence the title). One of the songs on My December, "Irvine", Kelly said she wrote at the saddest point in her life and said she hopes to never be in such a dark place again. With this new album she is happier and better adjusted. Not only has her mood changed but her material has changed once again as well. It's upbeat and fun and completely Kelly. She wouldn't make music that she didn't like. Simple as that.

Irvine <3 My favorite from Kelly.
I don't think this will hit #1. 'GYH' & 'Circus' will keep it out and 'Right Round' will leapfrog it to the top spot.

15 10 KELLY CLARKSON My Life Would Suck W... 5361 4403 958 33.716 +121 Spins +32 Bullet +0.993 Audience Thanks for the update, azriel. Excellent progress from yesterday. Only 128 spins between MLWS and 'Womanizer' this morning. In tomorrow's update, 'Gives You Hell' should move ahead of 'Live Your Life ' and MLWS should move ahead of 'Womanizer.' Everything above them looks stuck in place for now.

Maybe you can come up with a solution and her team can let RCA know.

Well, this is the chr radio forum and for some reaching #1 on the radio is as important as the Hot 100 ... if not more. Radio airplay is what will help her album sell more, anyway! :)

Seeing how adamant Kelly was about making My December, it should be clear to anyone that she won't sing something she doesn't feel comfortable with or believe in. That's not saying she shouldn't compromise. That's what this song is. A compromise.
Kelly isn't like a lot of other singers who fit neatly into a little box. She transcends genres in a lot of ways because she is a versatile singer and performer. I do think this more Pop-leaning sound is much more her style than the rougher stuff she tried with the last album but she can pull it all off fairly well. The sell-out accusation is silly.

God forbid someone says that this is the real me or that wasn't really me then...and then after some time they change and everyone is in an uproar, because apparently no one is allowed to change and grow? Anyways, just wanted to say this poster could be my twin for this topic.

It's because her REAL sound is her last album, but she conformed to what everybody wanted... I understand people complaining that MLWSWY is a "sell-out", cuz, let's face it, in a way it is. I personally ADORE "My December", but, it didn't sell well at all and radio practically ignored everything from that era. What do you guys expect her to do? Continue releasing music that doesn't sell? I mean, I agree that artists should have "artistic integrity", but, they still need to pay the bills and eat, just like the rest of us. Sometimes an artist needs to release something they know will do well on the charts so they can then release something off-beat the next time around. I think it was smart of Kelly Clarkson to go the "popular" route with this release. It keeps her on the charts and on the airwaves. In the end it seems to me that she had a choice. Follow the December path and become a 2nd/3rd tier artist, or give people what they want and go back to being an A-lister. Just my two cents. And..may I add that I have been listening to MLWSWY non-stop since it was released on iTunes. I also think, that although she may have compromised this time around, there's no way she doesn't like this music? Listen to the chorus. There's complete joy in her voice. She had fun recording this track, it's evident.

Kelly never wanted to always make the music on My December. She didn't "change from that" (we've heard one song from the new album, btw. ;)) because it did poorly. She is changing her sound a bit because she does that on EVERY new album. She doesn't want to make the same thing twice. Kelly was going through some personal things during My December, and she needed to get her thoughts out. Now that she has, she can go back to a more current style. I don't think it had anything to do with the success of My December.

I don't think she's supposedly betraying her "real" sound- After "thankful" she wanted to make a CD with more of a rock edge and "Breakaway" was exactly what she wanted and she said it was more true to who she was than on "Thankful"- that's what she wanted to make- she was in a depressed state during "My December" and that showed so the darker vibe was in tune with that but it doesn't mean that is what she always wanted to do.
I got the HQ version of MLWS and it's true, it's even better and it was already pretty great.

I wouldn't say she's selling out. Didn't she say before the release of My December that her next album would be a commercial album in the mould of Breakaway.
She always planned to return to this kind of music.

She said something along the lines of "if they let me do MD, then I'll do whatever they want next time". So, last night Kelly finally performed this and received one of the biggest ovations of the night! :) and yay for #9!!!

Which is one big reason why all this whining about "selling out" is so old already. Two... years... old. Hate on Clive if you must, but what's done is done. Get over it already. Can't we drop the negatives and get into the positives of this new era? Kelly already has several #1's, including back-to-back weeks at #1 on Hot 100. This morning she's at on the airplay Top 40 chart with the third biggest bullet. And we're still a month away from the album's release. CELEBRATE the here and now. Don't REGURGITATE the done and gone.

WOOO!!! #9! The top 10 are very crowded now. Not everyone can go to #1, there will be some acts that's gonna get screwed. It'll be exciting to see , out of this huge pop acts on the top 10, which one(s) would pop radio prefer/support more than others to take it/them to the top spot. I'm pretty sure MLWSWY would be one of them! =) But i'm not gonna be stressing over #1, she just needs to keep gaining and gaining ... It's still a long way to go, i feel like the REALl fight hasnt even began yet. ...and watch out for Right Round.

This has really flown up the charts - I'm so happy for her.
P.S. I wonder why Dr. Luke hasn't posted anything in these threads - I wonder if RCA told him to keep quiet or something, lol

Its bullet was over 1000 yesterday, but is down to 971 today. The three Rap/Hip-Hop songs by FLO RIDA, T.I and NE-YO in #18, #19 and #20 all have strong bullets, but that's to be expected since R&B/Hip-Hop dominate Top 40 radio. Here in Los Angeles, KIIS-FM is the only Top 40 station, and it easily plays a ratio of about 10 R&B/Hip-Hop songs to 1 Pop song. A Pop song needs to be catchy as hell to break through in the L.A. market.

Also, some people were bashing him during "My December", so I think he probably decided to stay away from Kelly threads after that.

Hrm... Not loving that performance clip. Sounds like they dropped the key a bit?
Hopefully by the time they start promoting she'll be a little more comfortable with the song.
