Paulina was interviewed at one of the Obama Inauguration parties weeks ago. She said her new album is almost almost ready and should be coming out pretty soon. Do you, guys, have any specifics about this? Radio really needs some good fun pop in my opinion. I don't know what happened with her previous album which I really liked. It seems that promotion just stopped or that the album died like in the second single or something.

I looked up the info of her last album, because I lost track of it while in the US. Her first single was a big HIT all over, though: "Ni Una Sola Palabra" and deservedly so. Then, the second single "Nada Puede Cambiarme", which featured Slash, was one of my Top Latin songs of the year. However, I didn't hear the other singles till today: "Ayudame" www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-cjtK73CZY"Que Me Voy A Quedar" www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r8cillC20wMmmm.... well, they deserved to flop! LOL not as good as other songs that Paulina has released in her previous albums. About the new album: CHECK PAULINA'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!! Whew, same thing. Like Ananda, she collaborated again with big names in the Latin Music to write songs for her. If my memory serves me right, Mario Domm of Camila wrote for her, the ex-member of Sin Bandera and another Mexican that I forgot wrote songs for her new album like what Juanes (No Te Cambio), her best pals Julieta Venegas and Coti Sorokin (Que Me Voy A Quedar, Ayudame) and another ex-member of La Oreja de Van Gogh (NUSP) did for Ananda. And like your implicitly saying in your last sentence that Paulina Rubio is as good only for one single? NUSP is only the cut above the rest. Slash's appearance didn't help too, even Paulina associating Ayudame for global warming neither helped too.. I hope what Ananda bore will not be followed with this album.
A good clash for his year: Paulina Rubio vs Shakira. Who's your bet? My ten-dollar bet is with the one who will sing a duet with Calle 13..

But my verdict? Ni Una Sola Palabra is far better than Causa Y Efecto. But I'm really afraid that when the Shakira album comes her album will succumb 6 feet from the ground. I hope your new album won't be just a bubble like Ananda did 3 years ago. Paulina, better use the limelight now, nobody in the diva section (even your archrival Thalia who semi-retired because she just got pregnant again)in the Latin genre owns it by the moment before Shakira steals it from you come June/August 2009 (the target months people close to Shakira thinks the album should be released)... Latest update: have seen paupower.com and the album entitled Gran City Pop will be released on 23rd of June. |

i really like the song.. but i feel that the hook isn't strong enough.. at first i didn't even know it was the chorus till i heard the words "causa y efecto".. its definitely not as good as Ni Una Sola Palabra or Te Quise tanto on first listen.. but maybe i'll grow to love it as much?

Sure it's not an instant hit as catchy as those first singles, but I LIKE IT!! And I think that the production is different enough to sound again contemporary and not outdated. The beat is different, pop/rock but with more synth, electro, claps, etc. NICE! Lyrics are good, too! AND I am liking her new image, too! FIERCE! jeje It is amazing how she turned from a flop artist with mediocre songs (casi ridiculas) in the mid 90s with the techno sound, into a modern relevant artist right after Lo Hare Por Ti and all that album "Paulina". Interesting is that she also made some fusion and has kept that Latin fusion in her recent albums too. It seems that she will also do some fusion in Gran City Pop. Great!! It will be interesting to see the duel between Paulina and Shakira  |

The beginning reminds me of Sara Bareilles' "Love Song".
I like it. If she was properly promoted, she could have the same success as Lady Gaga, with dance, happy, fun, pop songs.
I think she'll easily dominate before Shakira releases a new song.

I have to confess that her English debut was a bittersweet experience for me. I REALLY wanted her to do well when I knew she was gonna try the US market during the Paulina era. Her image and sound (not lyrics, though) for Y Yo Sigo Aqui was HOT! Same for Yo No Soy Una Mujer (with the difference that the lyrics here were MILES better). However, then I listened to her comments at that time saying something trying to minimize Shakira's success and implying she was ready to break the market. And then she tried the US market with Don't Say Goodbye!!! with a video 'inspired' in Kylie, with dance pop without anything that could differentiate her from others. Even worst was her second single "The One You Love"... so I was happy that she flopped with those bad singles and after feeling herself over Shakira... but I was sad because I thought she had the elements to do a successful crossover and be another Latina with hits abroad.  |

One issue last 2005 in a Blender Magazine featured Shakira and mentioned Paulina Rubio had the worst Latina artist who did the worst crossover of their era (I have the copy of that mag to prove that). I think she realized she is only for the Latin market.. The problem with Paulina is that she's a studio singer. She lip syncs 95% of her performances during promotion. A new artist in the US who only lip syncs would never be successful. Shakira did the best, but she is the most talented out of all the latino girls (unique voice, dance moves, writes her own songs, etc). Shakira is the real deal. Thalia and Paulina are both, sad to say, manufactured pop singers. I love them both (even more so than Shakira), but they will both have a hard time with not being good singers and not writing their own music. |

Paulina still has a better chance because she is active in the industry right now. If Thalia doesn't sign her (semi)retirement papers, I think Thalia could outshine Pau in more ways than one that I don't need to enumerate for. Nada puede cambiarme was OK as the 2nd, but i think Aunque no sea conmigo would have been a bigger hit. but they skipped this great ranchera like they did "OJALA" during pau-latina. The rumored release of Shakira-Madonna duet is getting stronger, louder and nearer (news sources say April 20,and they say it is in Spanish, see related thread). When will Paulina release her MTV?? In AllAccess, she is on the #18th spot. Will she wait for the new Shakira song to suck her new single and new album to the vacuum, considering Shakira as a devastating storm that enters the charts??

Paulina 3. Shakira Thalia and Paulina have excellent producers and songs. This is what has made them extremely successful. They also have unique voices that sound great on record. However, I would never pay to go to one of their concerts. I do buy every single one of their records, and I'm anxiously waiting for Grand City Pop now. I am aware that even good singers lip sync in Hispanic-Targeted Shows (Sabado Gigante, for example). I was referring to American promotional shows like Leno, Today Show, etc. Even Billboard Awards (unlike Billboard Latino), everyone sings live. I don't see Thalia or Paulina ever being huge in the American Market because they cannot sing live. Britney Spears does it but she choreographs and is an already established pop singer. Shakira's too strange for my taste, but I can see how perfect she is for the American Market. She's extremely unique, talented, intelligent. I don't really like her vocals more than Thalia or Paulina (on record), but I enjoy her live performances. As I've said, she's the real deal, in the US and all over the world. |

I'm not excited though. All those songs in her newest project were (almost) entirely composed by herself and Coti (Ananda, 2005) and Estefano (Paulina, 2001) and her tradition of singing with Mexican flavored-songs is up again in Gran City Pop.
The only song, which I think, could be successful in her newest album, is her duet with Noel Schjiaris (did I spell it right?) entitled Ni Rosa, Ni Juguete. That's what I think that will be the saving glory of Causa Y Efecto.. And I hope this ballad won't be like "Mia".

I agree that Pau never dissapoints.. Her albums are always good.. She never strays too far from what she does.. I hope there's a little more dance in this album than the last one tho.. stuff like Algo tienes or Sexi Dance

I don't think it will rise and it would be a "mega" hit like NUSP. At allaccess.com today, Out of 26 radio stations that play CYE, 14 of them have diminished the radio spins for the said single while 12 of them increased, thanks to the music video with her OH-SO-OLD styles that we've seen her doing before like: playing with the guitar that she's acting she really know how to use it, kid-like innocence and of course, her obsession to male bodies. And oh, how could forget the retro theme of the video with her lioness?-like face?? Haha. She looks like a monster when I see those thumbnails in YouTube. hehe.
