They're STILL milking this album of singles? Does Lofton Creek have some sort of policy that an album has to have at least five singles, regardless of whether or not they chart?

They're STILL milking this album of singles? Does Lofton Creek have some sort of policy that an album has to have at least five singles, regardless of whether or not they chart? When Pam Tillis made the decision not to promote Band In The Window as a single, she commented that it cost in the neighborhood of $500k to get behind a single with the necessary force. Maybe Mark's people misread that as $5 and have found enough money to promote 5 singles for a modest investment. Not working out too well. ($500k does seem to be an overestimate, but what do I know? Still, $5 is probably not enough.) They're good songs, though. Not that that matters.

It probably takes about 500K to promote a song the way major labels promote to major markets but Mark Chesnutt's had a lot of success on secondary markets with this album. Secondary markets typically have more 'open' playlists and allow artists more of a shot. Take a look at music row's chart, it's quite different than the other two.

...she commented that it cost in the neighborhood of $500k to get behind a single with the necessary force. Wow. Does this all come out of the label's pocket? Is this true of every band?... because I can't see some labels dishing out half a million dollars to promote some no-name artist who can't chart a single. I see those kinds of artists all the time.

Well it's what people figure into salaries of employees/consultants used to promote and the video is factored into it as well. The more popular an artist gets, the less they have to spend on them.

Well, apparently 5 singles must be the trick, because: Debut #60 Mark Chesnutt She Never Got Me Over You (Big 7/Lofton Creek) I must say that I've liked all the singles from this era, and this song is no exception. Given that Keith Whitley wrote this, it doesn't surprise me that it's getting a little bit of attention.

Beautiful song, beautifully performed. This is the kind of song Daryle Singletary still sings, but not too many singers have the skills to pull off. Mark does, and I love this, but I imagine it only charted because the audience needed for #60 this week was low.
I'd love to be proved wrong and have this on the charts for 20 weeks.

Wow, is that really Paul Franklin playing steel on this one? He does the "crying steel" technique so well that I'm actually quite surprised this wasn't actually cut back when John Hughey was still alive. Great song all around.

This is my favorite song to come along in some time. Does anybody know if Keith ever cut it? It's not on any of the cds I have, but I don't have them all.

I just noticed on iTunes you have to buy the entire album to get this song.... Some songs are like that, oddly. I remember "Building Bridges" from Hillbilly Deluxe being the same way.
