^ Agree. I just added Eminem to my list. It will be interesting to see who gets the love... Kanye or Eminem.
The Dave Matthews Band album is incredible, and it got excellent reviews all over. I think they have been snubbed lately by the Grammys, so they are due for a big year this time around.
I also think the Black Eyed Peas new album is going to be a big hit. I can see it getting alot of nominations.
Country Album: Leanne Womak, Keith Urban, for now...with Brad Paisely a likely candidate too. I am waiting for the rest to come out to add to the list. I don't think Rascal Flats' put out a strong enough album to contend this year.
Since the Grammys do not go by Sales, but artistry and merit, I highly doubt any pop-country albums will make it into the very traditional country categories. Both Sugarland and Carrie were snubbed last year for Country Album, despite putting out great albums... because they are not traditional country. The grammys seem to favor Patty Loveless or Leanne Womak over Carrie or Miranda Lambert even. So I would not expect any mainstream country/pop albums to make it.

I hadn't though of it but yes, DMB seem like a likely candidate. They're having a great first week, great reviews and its a sentimental album dedicated to their late sax player.
If BEP continue the success they've conjured up with BBP, The E.N.D. could be an easy AOTY nominee - big hits, big name and every song that I've heard sounds realllly good.
I think there will be a spot fought for by U2 vs. Green Day. I see GD taking it as 21 Guns will continue hype closer to grammy season. U2 also won AOTY last time out and this album doesnt have much buzz. GD got snubbed with AI last time so I hope they are nominated.
Eminem vs. Kanye...Kanye got better reviews and bigger hits. It's also more musically ambitious. Eminem has the "comeback" on his side. I hope Kanye gets the nod. If Jay-Z's album is as good as Kanye as making it seem, he could be a contender. What about Drake or Kid Cudi if they release albums in time?
I think the 5th spot will go to someone more low-profile, at least compatred to these aforementioned giants.
Is the eligibility period still being cut a month short this year? That sucks. Will they have a 13 month eligiblity period next year to bring it back to normal? They've never done this before with the Olympics, I wish they could avoid it somehow.

^ Good point. I read that the Nominations will be announced in November instead of December, right? So the cut off date is likely the beginning of september, instead of the end of September, like it usually is.
Does anyone have the new eligibility dates? thanx. It used to be September 30th was the cut off date every year.
PS--- Whitney Houston just announced her new album is being released September 1st, just in time for grammy eligibility I think. So that makes her a person to look out for, as this is her huge comeback album... It is sure to get some hype.
Also, Mary J Blige is releasing a new album in August, and she is a perennial Grammy favorite.
Daughtry is releasing their new album in July, so they could be in the mix.
Does anyone think Nickleback has a shot at a rock album nomination? I really like them, but I don't like their new album as much as All The Right Reasons.

I feel like Lady Gaga will dominate the grammy's. BUT she was already nominated for Best Dance recording in the 51st grammy's. So does this make her ineligible for most of the awards?

Dave Matthews Band - the band is furious with the Grammys after what they did last year. They left out LeRoi Moore, the member who died. Do we think this will hurt or help their chances of getting AOTY?
U2 - probably taking the rock spot in the AOTY nominations. DMB is the wild card.
Bruce Springsteen - I don't know if he can get AOTY. I think some rock album noms and other stuff, but I just don't think he can get AOTY.
Kanye West - Rap album nominee for sure, will compete with Em for the rap spot. Unless Jay-Z makes the cut. He is releasing Sept. 11. When is cut off?
Green Day - Another wild card
Eminem - I don't think this was the comeback we had all hoped for, but still he made a very solid CD, and anything could happen

Whitney's is not going to make the cutoff, which is the last day of August. Mariah, however, will, since she's releasing hers the final week of the month. Whitney will be in next year's competition. As for Mary, are we sure that she's releasing it in August?

Also, Mary J Blige is releasing a new album in August, and she is a perennial Grammy favorite. This is funny because this wasn't always the case with Mary J. Blige. It took her many many years to win ONE grammy, she was always regularly nominated, had the respect but she never got the recognition. Now she is a favorite but it took years after her debut before she got any grammy win recognition. I think it was because of Toni Braxton and possibly Whitney Houston winning everything back then. another interesting point, even though Mary J. has lots of grammy's NOW, she didn't even get a chance to accept one on the telecast until a few years ago, I think she accepted "Be without you, or R & B album" and she said it was her first time accepting ANYTHING on that stage. If Mary J. Blige had been an idol winner back in the day, she would have been seen as a early failure because of lack of award wins early in her career, that's why you can't count anyone out, you never know when it'll be the next person's time to shine.

Did Daughtry get a BNA nom 2 years ago? I don't remember. But if he didn't, and David Cook does, it will definitely be because of lack of competition this time. Cook is great, but he hasn't really had the critical praise, or commercial impact to garner a nom, has he? And frankly, the album wasn't great, and I think he's capable of making somethg much better, so I don't see him getting grammy love for the album. Maybe a male rock vocal for Come Back To Me?
And I hope Taylor and Kanye get AOTY noms. Wonderful albums with a lot of emotional depth to them. I don't know about specific fields, becuase people say Fearless is pop, but Taylor says its country. And is 808's pop or hip hop? I thought it was a pop album, but people are saying he'll be nommed in the rap section? Because I'm not sure if they can get nommed in general fields if they don't even get one in their categories because of the confusion.

I think that even if IIWAB is eligible, they should send Halo for Pop. I prefer IIWAB, but Halo seems to be a better recording for the critics.

He had more commercial impact than any of the last year's nominees except for the Jonas Brothers. Jazmine and Adele didn't even sell past 500K when they were nomianted. He is at 1.2 Million which a good commercial impact for a new artist in 2008/2009. He also wrote or co-wrote pretty much all of the songs on his album. I think commercial impact matters the least. The genre of music he falls under is embraced by the Grammy voters so that should help him a lot and the fact the he writes his music. At one point that didn't matter much (Britney and Christina were both BNA nominees) but the trend is now to nominate singer-songwriters especially neo-soul female artists, but rock genere is always embraced by the gray pony tail grammy voters.

"Commercial impact" isn't always album sales. I'm talking about having a presence in pop culture. David may be selling albums, but nobody knows about it! I don't think most people can name any song of his except maybe TOML, and that's his coronation song! Of course, that's because of his lack of presence on pop radio. He hasn't had a huge hit like Daughtry, or a crossover like Carrie, so nobody knows his stuff. And as I said before, I don't think Daughtry got nominated for BNA, and he outdid David in every way- commercial success, credibility, and critical praise. If he gets a nom, it will be for lack of competition, since there's nobody else right now. I am very hopeful, though, that he'll snag one for his vocal performance on Bar-Ba-Sol. I don't think CBTM is considered rock enough for a nom.

so britney is only for dance nominaton? :( She's got the best shot in the Best Dance Recording Category. These aren't the official nominations, there just my predictions for who'll score a nomination. But I'm almost always close when they're actually announced. She might sneak in Female Pop Vocal, but I highly doubt it. Electronic/Dance Album will also be extremely hard. Her best chane at being nominated and actually winning I believe is "Womanizer" which is genius synth-pop. I believe we can see another "Toxic" but Lady Gaga could give Britney a run for her money. "Pokerface" is a highly, HIGHLY potential nominee and winner as well.

the Electronic/Dance field..
she could always submit something like Eh Eh or Paparazzi to pop and Poker face, Lovegame to Dance. the Album will most likely be submitted to the Dance/electronic field.
Just Dance was nominated last year.

I would love to see La Roux, Little Boots, and Lily Allen get lots of nominations. But...I have a better chance of getting hit by lightning so I will say most of the noms will go to Kanye West & Taylor Swift.
