They said it themselves, via Sputnik Music: www.sputnikmusic.com/news.php?newsid=8809"hey all, We made it back from Melbourne in one piece and can happily to say, have finally managed to get some rest. The record is mixed and we are all really excited with how it is sounding. Somehow, in a very tight mixing schedule, we were able to shoot the video to the first single 'Set Fire To The Hive', which should be at radio early April. The video was shot in Melbourne at the Docklands studios with Chris Frey, who did an amazing job. Will try get some photos up from the shoot soon. Now we are just left with some i's to dot and some t's to cross in regard to the record and then it's all systems go. Will post the release date as soon as it is confirmed... Vool"

One of the few great bands Bieler's got left. I really hope they push this band hard, because since Smile Empty Soul and Nonpoint both left and Another Black Day's on hiatus, they're running out of meal tickets.

On their myspace: www.myspace.com/karnivool I don't know how I feel about this yet. It almost sounds like the Mars Volta, which is nothing like their last album.

I totally see where you're coming from with the Mars Volta, almost like a more radio-friendly version, a little more alt-metal driven. It's different than their last album (and does the vocalist sound a little different?) but I'm very interested to hear where this direction takes them.

I guess it's cool, but I don't know about this as a single. I mean if "Themata" couldn't do anything, how could this song?

Judging from Australia's staple of rock bands, I don't think they're a continent as a whole that cares about making singles, really.

Unless you count AC/DC and old-school Silverchair. Now I'm just being difficult. I just don't like how it's kinda like Mars Volta in the sense that I'm worried they're trying too hard to be technical.
The Mars Volta's Deloused in the Comatorium and Karnivool's Themata were too albums that were both technically interesting and emotionally intense. These albums weren't just awesome--they were beautiful. I'm worried that Karnivool may follow in TMV's footsteps of abandoning the concept that a really heartfelt well-written song can go a long way, especially if it's unique and technically interesting at the same time.

My fears have been alleviated. This may have replaced Goodbye to The Machine by Hurt for album of the year for me so far. I'm still waiting for the new Dredg album to come--that could have a legitimate shot too.

We won't, we are too stupid. We still think a real football isn't completely round.

This album just came out in the states a couple of weeks ago. And while no adds date has been made official for this, music choice rock and music choice metal play "Set Fire To The Hive" multiple times a day, which was how I discovered "Themata" in the first place. We'll see if a few other stations that played "Themata" jump on this one too.

Coming from the point of view of the average radio listener who does not frequent music boards, I don't know that this would ever hit much of a chord with them. PD's would have a hard time not seeing playing this with big exposure as anything more than really risky.
I had never even heard of this band until I joined this board and until recently had never heard them. They do have some fantastic music that I really find to be a step above much of what's on radio but at the end of the day I realize that radio doesn't service us so much. It is out there for the masses who take little time to look at the merits of songs, they just know they "likes what their ears hear". I know I have "junk" music that I still like but the radio gets filled with it sometimes because as much as its hated to be admitted around here, the Nickelbacks, Hinders, Puddles of Mudds of the world are what get a larger portion of the mainstream rock listeners excited.
On this topic. Set Fire to the Hive is probably too out there to do much damage but will definitely have its fans who are looking for it. I just listened to Themata after reading jvandyck's comment and that song is amazing. I agree that song COULD have been the one that got attention on rock radio. I'll bet anything though for them to get US attention on the radio they are going to have to "dumb it down". That's too bad.

Well I agree with you. That's why I'd be happy with any of the "Themata" stations playing this at all. While this song did decently well in Australia, the song that they chose as the second single in Australia called "All I Know" would have a much better shot in the US then SFTTH. Though I think "All I Know" might be more geared toward the alternative crowd than the active rock crowd.

This has been getting some airplay on Active recently. Hopefully an adds date appears soon. :)
