^ I remember there being a thread on here in the Opinions section a year or two ago that had an article that talked about there being no Asian popstars in the US. Think about it, the US is mainly American, some Canadian, some from UK and that's pretty much it. No Asians hit it big, the one that popped in my mind is Cassie, but she's not even 50% Asian, and is anyway a 1 hit wonder as of now. There really isn't any Latin stars either (and I don't necessarily mean crossovers, but from that ethnic group in general). Shakira and Enrique are the latest ones, RBD was the biggest crossover in the past 2 years. Other than that I think of Paula DeAnda, but again she only had a couple of big hits (not HUGE).

This has taken off with much more stability than IHTP.

I hated this mash up at first... but after listening to it a lot in clubs i really like it and almost anticipate the last part... "Oh no...not I... "... I forgot how much I Will Survive in an enpowering little song... It's fun to sing and feel good and think about the person you want to HUSH HUSH I'm all on board now. I guess radio is ready for it too

Nope, no sarcasm. ;) IMO, it took a lot less time for this to hit top 40 than IHTP did. Remember, IHTP went for adds in late October, and it took nearly 3 months until it started going anywhere. Meanwhile, it's been little over a month since this went for adds and it's already top 40 and seeing the biggest gains its had yet. Also, it basically took AT40 to kickstart IHTP while this hasn't needed AT40 yet, although when it does debut it'll get a nice jump from it.

Glad this is starting to gain some momentum. I just hope it is sustained a bit as this continues to grow. Nice to see it with a +200 bullet for once.

Also, it basically took AT40 to kickstart IHTP while this hasn't needed AT40 yet, although when it does debut it'll get a nice jump from it. That's an interesting assessment. Let's compare the two songs and track their weekly updates starting from the date they went for adds, courtesy of our archive of Weekly Top 50 CHR charts, America's Music Charts (released every Tuesday), and daily updates posted in the threads for each song. "I Hate This Part" (Adds date October 21, 2008) * Rough audience estimate November 9: 52 49 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 537 438 99 4.571 (TOP 50 Debut) November 16: 49 47 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 695 537 158 5.714* November 23: 45 39 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 897 695 202 6.186* (TOP 40 Debut) November 30: 39 37 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 1010 897 113 8.196 December 7: 37 36 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 1170 1010 160 8.780 (AT40 Breakout) December 14: 36 29 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 1720 1170 550 12.528 (AT40 Extra) "Hush Hush" (Adds date May 26, 2009) May 31: 56 47 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 439 302 137 4.779 (TOP 50 Debut) June 7: 47 45 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 545 439 106 4.963 June 14: 45 45 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 633 545 88 5.542 June 21: 45 43 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 739 633 106 6.648 June 28: 43 38 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 916 739 177 7.438 (TOP 40 Debut) Comparison with today's update (two days after Top 40 debut) "I Hate This Part" - November 25, 2008 (Tuesday) 43 40 PUSSYCAT DOLLS I Hate This Part 917 782 135 6.483 "Hush Hush" - June 30, 2009 (Tuesday) 43 38 PUSSYCAT DOLLS Hush Hush 969 768 201 7.669 It took 2-3 weeks for "I Hate This Part" to debut in the Top 50 after being pushed for radio adds, but under a week for "Hush Hush" to do the same. However, both songs took about the same time to enter the Top 40, with "Hush Hush" spending nearly an entire month in the #40s before this past Sunday. "I Hate This Part" had a fast start upon entering the Top 40 but then slowed down for a couple of weeks. I will agree it took AT40 to kickstart "I Hate This Part" but its release took place under different circumstances, coming off the release of "Whatcha Think About That", a single that was released in early October and had to be phased out just as quickly as it was going for adds, thanks to their label. I'm sure there were stations that struggled with this and it took them about a month to recover before making the switch to "I Hate This Part". Other stations likely skipped the single together and were able to make the transition from "When I Grow Up" to "I Hate This Part". Then the holiday chart freeze followed just as this single finally started gaining momentum. Also, just as "When I Grow Up" went recurrent, "I Hate This Part" took its place on the chart. In the case of "Hush Hush", it was a follow-up to the poor performance of "Jai Ho!" but more than a month since "I Hate This Part" achieved recurrency. A few weeks passed without the Pussycat Dolls having a song chart inside the Top 50 until "Hush Hush" entered at the start of June. Despite an initial slowdown likely with "I Hate This Part" still getting regular airplay, "Hush Hush" has since recovered with increased stability. A few days since entering the Top 40, it has gained an overall advantage in spin count, bullet, and audience. Today's update for this song is by far its strongest yet. Its prospects for making the AT40 are looking good, although David Guetta, Cobra Starship, Taylor Swift, The Fray, LMFAO, and even Kings of Leon will probably get first priority, so depending on how much momentum it gains in the upcoming weeks, this could start charting no later than sometime around mid-July.

^great analysis... it just shows how messed up their label was in this era.
PCD had hits in DD... but the people behind them did everything they could in the wrong way.
I wish that they "will survive" despite all of this.

Doll Domination has many hits on it: WIGU, IHTP, BP, Magic, Elevator, PW and even Hush Hush. The label screwed things up big time.

Thanks Purged; I didn't recall IHTP hitting AT40 at the end of last year -- I thought it had struggled until the chart unfroze in January before it took off.
And I hadn't forgotten about WTAT either; remember, I was one of the few lobbyists (if not the only one) supporting it. ;)

It hit the AT40 in early December, and started reaching its stride. The chart freeze over the holidays stalled it in the mid-20s, then IHTP resumed where it left off, moving up in the first week of January after beginning to chart on AT40. I remember this very well since it was around the same time I started posting daily updates and going crazy with all my detailed analysis and prospects for this song...LOL And I hadn't forgotten about WTAT either; remember, I was one of the few lobbyists (if not the only one) supporting it. ;) Yes indeed, I remember that too.

I remember people comparing WTAT to a disease or something...
it was not that bad. The wrong follow up? yes...but after IHTP it could have done well (see UK: a case of success)...
About their cd, will they not promote their re-release in the USA? It's like they don't even care... I was sure the were hoping for at least a Gold Certification in the end.

They pushed it back enough times already that by now, most people don't even know or care now if the re-release will ever see the light of day in the U.S. It's already since been re-released in Australia and as a mini-set in the UK. For North America, it's supposedly tentatively scheduled for late August. If that's the case, it would help if they pushed a single exclusive to the re-release, being "Painted Windows" and that would serve as the follow-up single to "Hush Hush".

Less so in Canada, it seems. Even the singles that fared poorly stateside seemed to have a decent run in Canada. "Whatcha Think About That" had an unexpected longer run with little radio airplay but was in regular rotation on MuchMusic right until the start of the holidays. All it did was reach #20 on their countdown and had one week on the Canadian Hot 100 around the time Doll Domination was released. "I Hate This Part" was also getting airplay, but did not really take off until the beginning of January, after radio stations added it at the end of the holidays. "Jai Ho!" also had a bit of a run, although far from matching that of "I Hate This Part" and "When I Grow Up". It's still charting on the Canadian Hot 100 where it peaked at #5, was a Top 30 song on CHR, not much of a hit on Hot AC, but some stations that had this song in rotation stayed with it for a while and were not quick to drop it. It also got decent airplay on the music channels, with this one peaking at #7 on MuchMore's Countdown. All this even with Nicole's featured artist credit attached to it.

The Hush Hush remix is only in the new version...so it counts as a single from it, right? I wonder if they will bother... I wish they did. But they are such a disfunctional group right now.

That's correct. Only the remix of "Hush Hush" is in the re-release as a single, along with 9 other tracks.
The remaining tracks from the original Doll Domination release are: "When I Grow Up", "I Hate This Part", "Halo", "Bottle Pop" (featuring Snoop Dogg), "Takin' Over the World" and "I'm Done".
Other exclusive tracks for the re-release are "Jai Ho!", "Top of the World", and "Painted Windows".

I look at all of this as a very inconvenient predicament. Let's say that Hush Hush does manage to do very well, and they do decide to release Painted Windows and it becomes a smash like so many people think it will. After two great singles, there are normally a few more singles released afterwards (almost as if HH and PW were the first two singles off the album), because it takes more than two hits to sell millions of copies (note PCD), and IHTP and WIGU barely count because they were really only moderate hits and are practically disjointed from this part of the era.
There are without a doubt other great single choices on the first Doll Domination, but there have already been so many singles released that it starts to get to the point where there are 10+ singles released during this era, which is ridiculous. Plus 2.0 is already released, and they've already exhausted most of the singles on it. It's almost too late to make things right, after so much failure has occurred.
So if things do go well for these next two songs, do they redeem themselves and re-release one of the clear hits like Bottle Pop, do they release yet another new single like Halo or Magic, or do they stop? No matter what they do, the era will still be messed up. And i leave it up to Interscope to make the worst possible choice out of those three.
What do you guys think they should do if, lets say, HH went top 10 and PW went top 5?

Interscope bet not put ONE MORE DOLLAR in this mess of a project. Unless HUSH HUSH reaches #1 on Pop chart, they need to wrap this era up after this single. No more videos, random performances, flop re-releases, NOTHING!
Since they are obsessed in making Nicole a star, they should get her racial-identity-crisis a$$ to the studio with Ryan Tedder, Timbaland, Polow, Underdogs, and Will.I.Am to come up with some GOOD MATERIAL for the rest of the year. Than TRY AGAIN with her second first solo album next summer with a hot uptempo.
