My apologies if such a thread has already been created, but I saw a similar thread devoted to this topic last year. I would like to discuss radio station-sponsored summer concerts and other radio-station sponsored events which will take place over this time period.
98.9-sponsored Rockfest is happening, again, at Liberty Memorial. However, isn't something vividly wrong with this lineup?
Main stage:
Korn
Buckcherry
Shinedown
Corey Taylor (solo)
Theory of a Deadman
Saving Abel
Rev Theory
Second Stage:
Drowning Pool
Duff McKagan's Loaded
Dope
The Parlor Mob
Veer Union
Burn Halo
Crooked X
Federation of Horsepower
Every single one of the main stage acts, other than Korn, appeared at last year's event. Drowning Pool and Federation of Horsepower also appeared at events' past. I love metal, but it's frustrating watching my local Active Rock station regurgitate the same generic active-rock bands year in and year out. Where's the Avenged Sevenfold? Atreyu? And why recycle the same bands? Ridiculous.
*Edit* It makes the situation worse when the station fails to open their mind to play anything that doesn't sound like a direct ode to 1970s and 1980s era metal/rock. Stop playing Kid Rock and start introducing new, relevant bands to the mold. I understand the countless golds and recurrents....all stations do this....but culture is dead on this station.
There, rant over.
And, to counter, my alternative station, 96.5, has at least showed some semblance of opening their mind.
The Used
Alkaline Trio
Anberlin
Taking Back Sunday
The Offspring (headliner)
A pretty solid fivesome, right there. And my station, for whatever (dumb) reason, seldom plays emo. So it's at least an encouraging sign that the Strokes and the remnants of long-irrelevant bands such as Alice in Chains and Candlebox aren't there to play songs from 1994.
