Christina Milian Is The Voice's Top Choice

The singer/actress talks to BET.com about joining the hit reality show.

Christina Milian has married her two favorite passions—acting and music— and mined them into a job for herself as the new social media correspondent for NBC’s hit singing reality competition show The Voice.

“I supply as much exclusive content online as possible for the audience including interviews for the advisors, with the coaches and the artists,” the 30-year old explained to BET.com about her new TV post. “I take people beyond what they see on television and really engage them. And as the show airs I’ll be tweeting live as well which allows the fans to communicate with me.”

Prior to joining the cast, Milian admits to being a self-professed fan of the show, which features music celebrity judge and mentors Cee Lo and Christina Aguilera, because of its originality compared to other reality competitions. “We’re not here to make fun of people, the coaches actually advise people on how to get better. Even in the blind auditions the type of information you get is priceless,” she says. And the contestant she thinks has the winning stuff so far? “Jamar Rogers, he’s one of my favorites and he’s got a story to tell," says Milan. "Jamar’s got great style, he’s great for our generation and he stands out.”

And look out for the Love Don’t Cost a Thing star’s role with the show to continue to expand as time goes on. “I’ll be doing some co-hosting on the show, too. You’ll be seeing a lot of me. I’m glad I’m apart of it and I feel blessed to have this opportunity,” she says. “They hired me to do one thing, but I will work wherever [the show] needs me to be.”

So don't be surprised if you see Milan joining the judges for their now traditional on stage jam music session very soon. "I'd love to," and she admits with a chuckle. "Yeah, I might be working my way to the stage [as a singer] too."

The Voice airs Monday 8pm/7c on NBC.

Christina Milian Talks Young Money Signing, New Album



Lil Wayne welcomed Christina Milian to the Young Money family at a lavish pre-Grammy celebration over the weekend. The newest Young Money member is now speaking out about her freshly-inked deal and plans for her next album.

“I’m going to be… Young Money!” the 30-year-old singer told Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio. “Yeah, I’ve signed with Young Money. It was pretty awesome. This weekend we had a big party, a big YMCMB party, and Drake was performing and we were all up on the stage and Wayne got up there and he announced it himself. And so I was kind of surprised and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is awesome!’”

Milian is currently recording her fourth album, her first since 2006’s So Amazin’. “We’re just getting started on it,” she said. “I’ve already halfway gotten there and when my mom and I went to Wayne and we played him some of the music, off the second song, he was like, ‘I love it. Let’s do this deal.’ I have some music that’s already going to be on it and the second half I’m working with them now.”

Weezy saw more than a pretty face in the “Dip It Low” hitmaker. “When they did a little background check, they saw even the songwriting, all that kind of stuff adds on top of, alright, she’s an actress, she’s a pretty face, she can actually sing, but not to mention she’s a songwriter. I thought that was cool that they even saw that.”

You can expect appearances from her new crew on the album. “They all get on each other’s records, so all I have to do is be home with everybody and we’ll just do lots of features.”

Milian was previously signed to Radio Killa Records. Her ex-husband and former label boss The-Dream offered his congratulations. “Congrats To Christina on her New Signing,” he tweeted. “Finally your fans can get the real you.”

If you’ve been watching The Voice this season, you might recognize a new face that’s been added to the lineup.

It’s pop star Christina Milian, who is holding down the fort as the new social media correspondent for the hit singing competition show!

She stopped by the AMP Radio studios this morning not only to talk shop with her co-hort Carson, but she also shared exciting news about her new record deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money label!

It’s been widely-rumored that Christina was joining the Young Money crew, but she confirmed the breaking news herself while chatting today with Carson:

I’m going to be…Young Money! Yeah, I’ve signed with Young Money. It was pretty awesome this weekend. We had a big party, a big YMCMB party and Drake was performing and we were all up on the stage and [Lil] Wayne got up there and he announced it himself. And so I was kind of surprised and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is awesome!’

Christina revealed to Carson that she was already about halfway done with her new album before the Young Money deal came through and now Lil Wayne and his crew will help her finish it.

She also hinted that there might be some big name features on the album, but she couldn’t say much more than that!

On a more serious note, Christina told Carson she was heavily influenced by Whitney Houston and she shared her thoughts about her unexpected passing:

May she rest in peace. There’s so much inspiration that came from an artist like her. I grew up in the 80s, my sister, her middle name is Danielle Whitney. My mom, she loved Whitney Houston, so we watched a lot of her growing up and it’s really unfortunate and unbelievably surprising like how it just happened before the Grammys, but I send my heart out to her daughter. Same thing to Bobby and their whole family. I can’t imagine how they feel right now.

Don’t let the baby face fool you. After more than a decade in the music industry, Christina Milian brings a good deal of experience to her role as the The Voice's social media correspondent for NBC.

The singer and actress dropped by the THR Covers Lounge recently and shared her sage advice for the show’s performers and anyone struggling to break in to the business.

“I’ve been in the music industry, I’ve been in the acting field for a very long time,” the 30-year-old says. “I’ve had my ups and downs and I still believe and I will not give up.”

“Maybe not everything is meant to be,” she goes on to say. “But I do believe that maybe mistakes are lessons learned or it’s just an experience for you to grow through, so that you can get to a better place.”

Eleven years after her self-titled debut album, Milian has signed on to rapper Lil Wayne’s record label, Young Money Entertainment. And she’s currently in the studio working on her fourth album, which she says will range from dance music to R&B-pop.

“I think this is going to be the most exciting, most meaningful album I’ve ever made,” Milian says.

As Memorial Day weekend approaches and the official weekend to the summer kicks off, Christina Milian reveals some exciting news. Although she’s been busy being mom, the singer/actress announced that she is in the works of creating a swimsuit line.

Milian teamed up with Nicole Di Rocco the creator of Nicolita Swimwear to get her entrance into the fashion world started. The Voice host took to Twitter to let her fans know how excited she is about the project.

Christina previously launched her own line of sunglasses, called C. Milian Eyewear, so bathing suits are the perfect direction for her to capitalize and make some money.

Christina Milian Blasts Ex-Husband 'The Dream' for Being Absent Father

Christina Milian recently opened up about the challenges that she faces being a single mother and blasted her ex-husband for not being an active father for their 2-year-old daughter.
Milian and Terius Youngdell "The Dream" Nash separated on July 12, 2010, less than one year after they got married, and the 30-year-old singer suggests that while he is paying child support for their daughter Violet Madison Nash, he does not spend time with her, according to Houston's 97.9¡äs radio host JJ.

"I really would like for her to have a father in her life. I've come to the realization that I have to be a 150 ¨C 200 percent mom for her. It's not about finances. No, it's about spending time," a frustrated Milian told JJ.

"I'm not one of those parents or mothers who say, 'oh you can't spend time,' or be that way with a baby daddy and try to withhold their children and use that against them. I'm just going to leave it at: my daughter is a great kid and she has a lot of love around her and some day she is going to have a man in her life that loves her the way I do," she added.

Milian reportedly dumped The Dream after reports of an affair began swirling following the birth of Violet.

Intimate photographs of The Dream, 34, and his assistant surfaced online which reportedly prompted Milian to leave. The pair were said to be on vacation and their body language led many to believe that they were engaged in an extramarital affair.

Although the actress has not been romantically linked to anyone serious since announcing her separating from The Dream, she suggested that her next partner would be the father to her daughter that The Dream has not been.

"I remember what it was like as a child being raised by my dad and it meant something to me. And he and I actually had an off time when I was a teenager because he had left us for a while but he came back and he's back in my life and I'm so thankful because he meant a lot to me," she said.

"So, I just would like that for [Violet]. But she'll have that. And she'll have that in somebody that will care and love her," she explained adding "She's so easy to love, that's the most amazing thing about her [and] I couldn't go a day without seeing her."

On whether distance is a huge factor and if he even Skypes with their daughter:
We live in different cities, he’s in Atlanta and I’m in LA. There are planes and plenty of money for airplanes so..

as far as skyping: I’m just gonna leave it at that my daughter is a great kid and someday their will be a healthy man in my life that will love her the way I do.

Well we hope that this interview will conjure up some type of initiative in The Dream to be a better father, step up and to not be a deadbeat like some other men!!!

The-Dream Fires Back At Christina Milian's Parenting Criticism

While promoting the ESSENCE Music Festival last weekend, singer Christina Milian took some shots at her ex-husband The-Dream. After strongly implying he was a deadbeat dad, The-Dream, real name Terius Nash, responded by calling her a gold digger whose 15 minutes of fame are almost up.

Milian's comments to The Box were about her unhappiness with how Nash has avoided their daughter Violet. "It's not about finances, it's about spending time," she said. "We live in different cities… There are planes and plenty of money for airplanes so… I'm not one of those who withhold their children from their baby daddy. I don't do that."

Nash, ever emotional, took to Twitter after reading her comments last night (July 12). "She had a plan to come up before she met me I called her on it," he wrote. "Go digging for gold u might find it… But it's hard to carry that much weight."

He continued blasting Milian and the people that buy into her criticism. "Publicity Stunt. Are people really this Stupid," he continued. "If I had a serious issue concerning care for a loved one, I'd call the source. Has been…"

The last time he spoke to her:
I emailed her several times, she hasn’t emailed me back.

On her signing to Cash Money:
She’s a different person since she signed though.

Why he doesn’t want to speak on their drama:
We have kids that are involved in a different way, so the things that we say come back to them. So it’s more people than myself. So I can’t just get out and say whatever it is I wanna say. I’m quite sure that everybody knows that I have a way with words and if I wanted to say everything that I wanted to say, it would be devastating to a lot of people. I just choose not to do that. What’s the point? When things are real, when it comes to down to children in a household or if you got a problem with somebody, you pick up the phone and call them. If I ain’t got a phone call, that means that somebody’s on something else. I can’t do nothing about that. I wish Christina the best on her debut and hopefully her career takes off and she gets exactly what she deserves.
