1994 for is totally retro now. The Sign, Bump n Grind, Creep, all classics that could have only come from that decade.

Tonic's "If You Could Only See" just popped on the radio as I entered this thread.
If I didn't know better, I'd say it was some band's latest single.
With that said, I think 90s music is different in that sense that it was better, but it's definitely not retro.

If anything, the 90's revival is just getting started.

80's was considered retro in the mid 90s. I'm waiting for 90s weekends and specials on radio/ Ben-FM in Philadelphia does these occasionally. They go pretty obscure too- I think I heard PM Dawn's "Paper Doll" once. Can't say I've heard that anywhere else this decade. There's also Backtrax 90's, but that's mostly the big hits, not too much obscure stuff.

Early 90's Pop music is very Retro. It's has much more in common with 80's music than today's music.
90's Rock music isn't really considered "retro" yet because it never stopped being played on the radio. You can't listen to an Alt. station for a day without hearing Alive or Smells Like Teen Spirit. It's similar to Classic Rock. Most people don't consider Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones to be "retro", just "classic". The reason is there hasn't been a day since the late 70's where you couldn't hear those bands on the radio.
The 80's became "retro" when they were rediscovered. There were some years in the 90's when you couldn't hear Dexy's Midnight Runners on the radio. When bands like that became featured in lunch hours and special weekends, they became "retro". Similarly, a lot of 90's music has disappeared from the radio and when it comes back, it will be "retro".
