This has been more successful on the charts but I don't think its cultural impact comes close to that of "Poker Face"; it's a classic party song and that's about where it begins and ends.

Even if this does statistically pass PF in terms of charts(and like I said the only place its done that is the Hot 100 and Rhythmic charts), it still hasn't had as big of a cultural impact.

I'd take 'Just Dance' over either one of those tunes, especially if it edges 'Gives You Hell' and winds up #1 for the year @ Mediabase in what is shaping up as an extremely close race heading to the end of the Mediabase chart year in fourteen weeks on Nov. 28th.

Are yall really arguing about which song was better or a bigger hit? Who cares? They both were huge and great songs.

I don't buy the "cultural relevance" argument. And I think the situational examples like "I hear people singing p-p-p-poker face everywhere!!1!" are useless because I could argue the same for "I Gotta Feeling".
Which song is bigger is basically based on area, and in Los Angeles IGF is the clear winner. It might be different for others. In the numbers game they're virtually tied.

The fact that we even have to argue over which song is bigger shows they're both huge and that there's not much of a difference in how much of an "impact" they've mad.

Cultural impact, although immeasurable, is real and something that can certainly be discussed and compared. It can't be measured through charts or numbers or the amount of people I hear singing a certain song down a street. That's not what cultural impact is anyway. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to suggest that "Poker Face" has made more of an impact than this in some ways. It's only been a few months and "Poker Face" is already being sampled in another hit song ("Make Her Say") which is charting on different formats than the original; thus broadening the overall exposure and overall impact. That's just one example. That's not to take anything away from this song's success. It clearly has made a connection with millions of listeners and consumers and will be remembered in its own right. I also would like to add that I'd rather engage in somewhat interesting discussions like this as opposed to some of the mindless chearleading that occurs in this forum. People act like it's pointless to even bring up a discussion like this but I find it interesting. Maybe that's just me, though.

Don't know if that last comment was directed towards me or not, but I like discussions like this as well.
All I've got to say is that it can be argued (strongly as well) that either of these two songs is more successful than the other. I think most people would agree that they are virtually tied because neither has any significant upper hand, in any area. People can argue cultural impact, but that's also based on locale isn't it? It's hard to describe, but "I Gotta Feeling" is absolutely HUGE in the L.A. area. Maybe someone else from the area can explain it better than I can, but I haven't experienced an all around universally loved song like this...ever. It wasn't the same with "Poker Face" here, but it might be in other areas.
I'm just going to stick to my "they're both so ridiculously huge" argument that's it's almost impossible to pick a winner.

Don't know if that last comment was directed towards me or not, but I like discussions like this as well. Nope. You're cool. :) I won't call anyone out but it was directed towards someone else; and basically anyone who dismisses such discussions just because they can't be measured. Well, in some ways, cultural impact does have a lot to do with your location and how certain songs are received there. Like you said, this song is seemingly ubiquitous where you are and when you experience that, it's hard to fathom anything having a more substantial impact. So in your area, it could be argued that this song simply has had the bigger impact. It might be (and is) different when you take other areas into account, though. But like it's been mentioned, it can't be proven so it's hard to say with certainty which has the upper hand and which has made more impact overall. Both songs have certainly made quite a splash. That's for sure.

i think they are both equals, but i'd give the upper hand to IGF. Poker Face, for me, was a late bloomer. I didn't even catch on to it until it had fallen out of the top 10. That's how late-to-the-party i was. And i did not even know anything about her at all when she performed on Idol. IGF....well, that just stormed every chart like there was no tomorrow. Plus i think it reaches more generations, both young and old(er).

15 spins from 'Bleeding Love' 134 spins from 'Poker Face'
And Cam is absolutely right, the "impact" depends on location, and from my discussions and experience, your friends.

That makes sense, since IGF perfectly matches the LA attitude of self-absorption, superficiality and wasteful spending. I've hardly heard this played anywhere in NYC... I think PF was certainly more supported here.

Well since LA is the Peas hometown and NYC Gaga's, of course you know which one is going to get played more in that respective city.

I'm from Southern California, born and raised, and none of those insulting adjectives apply to me. Neither do they towards my friends or family. Watching reality shows based in Los Angeles or making a single trip might make you feel like you actually know what people are like here, but you have no clue. I'm not sure why you have such a gigantic chip on your shoulder. Since the majority of your posts are neither analytically interesting or informative I would think you'd try to be nicer to people on here so you'd actually have some worth. But I was wrong.
