I suspect Kanye may have seen this as a race issue, but clearly the reaction is because most people saw it as a 31-year-old man bullying a 19-year-old girl, which is never cool. That's why Kelly, Katy, P!nk, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks and the rest are so upset and why Beyonce went out of her way to make it up to Taylor.
As for rappers in general, it's clearly true that many rappers have done much worse things than this and suffered no harm to their careers. You can make of that whatever you want, but it's the way it is. Doesn't mean all rappers are bad guys, just that the ones who are suffer no consequences.

I can't believe people are saying that people upset by what Kanye did are overreacting and that he didn't do anything wrong. SMDH.

I guess people forgot about Eminem. Didn't he get booed for dissing Moby at the '02 VMAs?
I keep thinking about this but Lil' Mama's appearance was so random and hilarious.
Isn't Taylor a woman? People acting like she's a child.

She's 19, not a kid, but that doesnt matter. It's the point that Kanye was being rude and classless. He was rude and I don't think people saying he was wrong are overatting(So Katy/Mary J/Pink/Fabulous/Kelly/Kellie/Jon Rich/ect ect ect)are all over-reacting?
It's just Kanye showed a lack of respect, and alot of his peers and music listeners have lost respect for him. Personally I still love his music and will buy from him, I just think his ego is out of check and he should learn some manners and stop being such a baby when things don't go his way. He has a blog! Stick to that!

I have never seen Kanye jump on stage, rip the mic out of someone's hands, and then declare that another contestant was better and should have won. Especially not of a teenaged girl obviously thrilled to have won an award. Can you link me since you say he has done this before? To me, it is a class issue. Kanye has said dumb stuff before, but I have personally never seen him do something like that-totally class-less and trashy. I cannot believe anyone would really want to defend him even if you are a fan. I never understood defending someone just because you like them. I can call my artists out if they are idiots or acted like an idiot. Doesn't mean I have revoked fan status or can no longer buy their cds. VMA ratings were up, by the way-highest ratings in years. Maybe you should read what I say before posting. I've said time after time that what he did was douchey/rude/classless etc. I never have defended him, saying that it was right for him to do what he did. My reaction doesn't have to do with my preference of Kanye's music over Taylor's. He has never done that specific thing but he has thrown many hissy fits, claimed he should've won when he didn't, claimed others should've won when he did etc etc. That's similar to what he said last night. I simply don't think it was as big of a deal as people make it out to be. That's my opinion on the matter and I was simply inquiring what upset others about it.

The issue is not that Kanye expressed his opinion, it was the way he chose to express it. Had he given an "official" statement to MTV or blogged about it later there would have been no issue. The fact that he ruined Taylor's moment by publicly humiliating her in front of hundreds of her peers and millions of viewers is despicable. To those who said he never insulted her, what a load of bull. Why does anyone insult an individual? To offend that person and hurt their feelings; did Kanye not succeed in doing both with his actions? I believe the answer to that is yes. It couldn't have happened to a nicer or more genuinely humble person either (which makes the whole situation even worse). I still can't believe people are defending his actions. I applaud you for voicing your opinions Kanye, just pick the right time to do so you jackass.

Not sure if that was directed at me but... I never have defended him, saying that it was right for him to do what he did. Again, he was douchey but was Taylor really publicly humiliated? Everyone was clearly on her side. Her moment was obviously ruined, which does suck and it was totally awesome of Beyonce to give her an oppurtunity to finish her speech, but while Taylor was in pure shock, I never saw it as her being humiliated, as everyone was hating on Kanye.

Could you imagine if Pink would have won? She would have smacked the shit out of him.

Could you imagine if Pink would have won? She would have smacked the s**t out of him. I really am curious if he would've done it if anyone besides Taylor won. Her meek personality made it easy for him.

was Taylor really publicly humiliated? One only need to look at her expression while it was all happening (and the fact that she cried backstage) to know she was humiliated.

Her meek personality made it easy for him. Let's see, who else was in that category? Pink would have had none of it. Beyonce's in his possy so that's a no, Lady Gaga would have smacked the shit out of him too, Kelly Clarkson I believe is more dangerous than she appears, and I'm not sure about Katy Perry. She looks like she could have a smart mouth though. So I guess he picked the perfect person to pounce on.

I don't think he would've done it to Gaga - he raves about her and they're about to go on tour together.

Katy Perry would've said something to make him look like a complete d*ck..Even though he did that himself. I would've LOVED to see what P!nk would've done..haha I bet she'd smack him with her moonman!!!

Eventually, Taylor will get over it. The world will get over it. No, it's not that serious. But some people are clearly missing the point as to why so many people are against what West did. Sure, he did similar things on many occassions. But there's a line to be drawn. Kanye seems to always get a pass for "speaking his mind." I will never understand it. He has dissed BET, AMAs, Grammys, etc. on several different occassions but he has never suffered the consequences for it. It just amazes me.

^^ I know! But he always turns up. If I was him, I'd look back at the video and feel like such a dumb pr*ck..Surely he's embarrassed by it? Getting all serious about a f*cking music video!!! And a stupid moon man!! I hope he feels like the prize c*nt he is.

Sure, the VMAs get a certain amount of viewers and that's it, but this clip has been on every news station and around the internet all day, and millions of people around the world saw what he did. Can anybody imagine how embarrassed Taylor must have been? He humiliated her in front of MILLIONS of people around the world. It's unreal.

This is exactly what he wanted and we all fell for it. It's ashame. Nobody is even talking about Janet's performance with Michael because of it. The dance tribute and her singing and dancing with her brother was the expected highlight of the night but it got completely overshadowed by DOUCHEBAG WEST, along with everything else. It was a big deal but the headlines today are all about him and his little dumb tantrum.

I'm honestly surprised people aren't talking more about the MJ Tribute & Lady Gaga - IMO, those were the clear highlights.
Who else will be seeing This Is It on 10/28? :)

The MJ tribute was great. Madonna did a very god job, and then the dancers did an amazing job. Janet owned the stage, I loved how she danced along his brother, it was really exciting, and sad at the same time.
Taylor vs Kanye was so WTF?! Kanye needs to shut up, he's an idiot, thanks god, he won NOTHING. Taylor's performance later was really cool, she sounded great.
Pink performance was amazing, they only bad thing is that I wanted her to perform 'Funhouse'. Same with Beyoncé, it was great, but I needed a 'Sweet Dreams' performance. Katy Perry did a good job with her 'We Will Rock You' version.
The band with Wale and the performances by 3OH!3, Pitbull and The All-American Rejects were good, but it happened the same as last year with Katy Perry, they weren't full versions and it was annoying.
I'm happy about Britney getting Pop Video, but it was really bad that she wasn't there to get the award.
GaGa's performance was great. I had huge hopes for it to be amazing and even if I expected something else it was great. Her bloody outfit was really weird, in a bad sense. And the last one was random too.

I don't think anyone's defending what Kanye did - it was obviously wrong, but y'all are getting ridiculous. He didn't Chris Brown the bitch, he just ruined her acceptance speech. Something tells me she'll get over it when she gets back to her McMansion in Nashville and rolls around in a sea of Benjamins.

Kanye actually did something awesome. Way to go! Beyonce's reaction was completely unprofessional and amazing. And how exactly would a professional have reacted?
